Foundation

Students have settled well into P.E classes. We have completed lessons on the oval and also indoors. They have been working on the fundamental movement skills of balancing and jumping through a variety of rotations. They are ensuring they use equipment safely and take turns.

Junior School

Students have been enjoying a variety of activities that require them to move their body in different ways. The focus has been on keeping our bodies safe and being aware of our surroundings.

Middle School

Students have played a variety of chasing and fleeing games. These have enabled them to hone skills of jogging, running and dodging while beginning to consider strategies used for attacking and defending. They have loved using the flag belts for the first time too.

Senior School

Students have played a variety of chasing and fleeing games. These games have required students to think about the strategies they are adopting. They have also been asked to consider ways to make games more inclusive.

Little Athletics Clinics

During week 5 we had Coach Rob from Little Athletics Victoria conduct free clinics during P.E lessons on Tuesday. The students loved learning new tips and strategies to make them run faster.

Some of the key phrases were:

Eyes straight ahead, lift your knees, pump your arms.

Coach Rob also gave students the basics for shot put and discuss.

The students are now looking forward to putting these skills into play at House Athletics (year 6 to 6 only) on Friday 21st March.

Division Swimming

A big congratulations to Sienna H, Kade R and Riley F who have successfully qualified for the Casey South Division carnival to be held at Noble Park Aquatic Centre on Tuesday 11th March. This is a great achievement and we know you will represent the show with pride.

House Cross Country

On Friday 21st February we held our annual House Cross Country. It was an event filled with colour and enthusiasm. Every single student should be proud of their efforts and the way they presented their house. A big well done to our foundation students for completing their first school sporting event.

A massive thanks to our wonderful volunteers - without them the day would not have ran so smoothly.

Congratulations to the students who placed in the top 8 in competitive races (9/10 yrs, 11yrs and 12/13yrs). They will represent the school at the District carnival on Tuesday 1st April.

House points were allocated throughout the event with it being a tight tussle all day.

The Foundation students have started talking about our Whole Body Listening when at school as well as acting out different emotions using our face and dancing to music to demonstrate how it makes us feel.

The Year 1 to 6 students have started discussing the Zones of Regulation, matching different emotions to each zone and discussing how they are a continuum of energy and our zone needs to match the situation.

Foundation

Students have explored lots of different mediums already including slick sticks (a big favourite), oil pastel and watercolour paint.

They have created drawings of their family, colourful backgrounds and 'magic' wax resist paintings. Their favourite lesson has been when we read the book The Cat's Colours and they made their own colourful cats. These will be retained at school for display at the Art Show as part of our Term 4 Fiesta.

Year 1/2

Picasso- The Rooster

Grade 1 and 2 students have spent multiple lessons creating their 'crazy chicken' masterpieces. They used Picasso's painting of a rooster for inspiration and attempted their own cubist approach. They used chalk pastels for the background colour and oil pastels to draw outlines and patterns. The students imaginations were fantastic! I saw some chickens with multiple beaks and eyes, rollerskating chickens, fire breathing chickens and chickens on a skateboard.

Middle School

Students have been learning about silohettes in art and have created their own animal silohettes using collage and watercolour paint.

This was quite a challenging task that required patience and dexterity. Students finished their work by framing it neatly ensuring the silohettes were like a mirror image of each other.

Senior School

Students have taken inspiration from Victorian artist Grotti Lotti and created a composition of an Australian bird/animal/flower. They could choose their medium and most took a mixed media approach using watercolours, pencils and paint markers.

They have produced many outstanding original artworks!

Red Hill Show

The Red Hill Show is on Saturday 8th March 2025. The house captains have chosen some beautiful artworks to be exhibited in the show. If you would like to come along (this is optional) to see the exhibition and enjoy the show tickets can be purchased here:

Mrs Danger will take care of the entering, delivering and retrieving of artworks from the show (along with any prizes) and let the families know if their student's work has been selected via email in addition to the newlsetter and announcements at school. There is no pressure to attend the show but the option is there.

Foudation students have begun their STEM journey by learning about Engineering. They have been building different places and things with Lego, focussing on the idea that they can always improve or add to their designs.

Grade 1 & 2 students have been learning about Living and Non-Living things. They have explored the school grounds and can identify both living and non-living things. They have begun to learn about the 4 criteria that something needs to be classified a living thing.

Grade 3-6 have been learning about the Engineering Design Cycle through a series of challenges. Students have had to use limited materials to build towers, bridges and catapults. They have had to work through the iterative process to design and build the best version of each object. We have all had a lot of fun exploring the different ways that a problem can be solved by using the Engineering Design Process.
