Year 4 Goes for Gold
Olympic Dreams in Our Community
Year 4 have been following the current Winter Olympics as part of their Mathematical data collection and reading comprehension. They were so excited to also learn about Mrs Stafford in our school community staff (LSO) and her family’s inspiring connection to the Winter Olympics. Mrs Stafford brought in memorabilia, including a relay torch and medals as she shared memories of watching her siblings compete on the world stage. She stated it was both nerve-wracking and she was incredibly proud. Seeing them perform at such a high level and achieve their Olympic dreams was a special moment for their whole family.
As a young skater herself, Mrs Stafford trained hard while balancing study and work, eventually stepping away from the sport at twenty. Although she sometimes felt guilty about the sacrifices her family made, especially the long trips to the ice rink, she reflects on those years with appreciation. Her love of skating was inspired by her mum, who encouraged her children to embrace opportunities she never had growing up.
Today, the family’s Olympic story continues in a new way. While her siblings competed in previous Winter Olympics, they now coach and mentor current Australian Winter Olympic champions. We are proud to have Mrs Stafford in our community and love sharing in the achievements and dedication of her remarkable family.
