The past fortnight, our prep students have been learning about Lent. Lent lasts for 40 days and begins on Ash Wednesday. During Lent there are 3 special things that we do:
In Foundation, we talk about Lent in simple ways. We focus on:
Another key focus that we have had is identifying where we can find God and this is done through our senses. We focused on sight, hearing and touch.
We went for a walk into our peace garden and students had time to look, listen and touch.
Some students noticed that they could see God in the blue sky, hear God in the birds singing and feel God in the warm sunshine.
Congratulations to Amelia and Flynn for finishing their first hero award chart.

In preparation for writing, the students are practising the correct formation of the shapes that form most letters. In addition, they are practising

Our Prep students have been jumping out syllables and using their fingers to count them! They are also mastering 'onset and rime' by listening to the beginning and end sounds of words and quickly blending them together.

The Preps are learning the names of the days of the week and identifying the days that come before and after a specific day. They are using the phrases 'Yesterday was...', 'Today is...', and 'Tomorrow will be...'. They are also learning to distinguish between weekdays and the weekend. Please practice the sequence of the days of the week at home.
We used the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar to sequence the days of the week and the events that took place each day. The Preps used story stones to retell the story and order the days, then followed up by creating their own 'Days of the Week' caterpillars. Finally, the students worked on accurately sequencing events in other familiar stories and nursery rhymes.

Kind Regards,
