Senior boys Soccer:

On Friday May 16th, the Senior boys Soccer team (Yianni, Stefan, Gabe, Hayden, Andrew, Kevin, Noah, Inti, Barbod, Connor, Luke, Cooper & Parsa) competed in the annual Senior Soccer tournament at Terrara Park in Vermont. They faced a strong opposition against Forest Hill in their first match, before playing more cohesively against Auburn’s B team, where they won comprehensively 5-0. Goals flowed freely, with Hayden scoring a hat-trick & Samyar & Cooper also getting on the scoresheet.

In their semi-final against Auburn’s A team, the boys showed tremendous spirit & perseverance with just 9 players (against Auburn’s 11) in the first half of the game, due to a contentious decision to send off 2 players in the previous match & went into half-time just 1-0 down.

Unfortunately, despite Stefan’s repeated defensive efforts & through balls, Luke’s tireless pressure acts on the wings, Gabe’s physicality in defence & Kevin’s solid goal-keeping, Auburn ultimately proved too strong.

Good luck at the Mullum Division Championships on Tuesday 27th May. The above place getters have qualified. The entire squad will be announced soon.

Junior & Senior girls AFL:

Mullauna’s Junior & Senior girls AFL teams showed excellent resolve & determination all day at Elgar Park on Tuesday May 6th, with the Junior team gradually finding form & confidence throughout their matches, culminating in a goal kicked by Ebony late in their final game of the day. Despite an ankle injury to key defender Jeyda, the team fought hard all day & showed promising signs for future years, with Nataliya’s imposing presence in the backline, Amelia’s exquisite ruckwork, Amarni’s hard running & Charlotte’s reading of the play & marking, all pointing towards a bright future for girls AFL at Mullauna!

The Seniors staked their claim as the premier team in the Mullum Division, as they cruised to a comfortable grand final win against Warrandyte. Playing as a cohesive team unit throughout, Lotte’s ruckwork in combination with Perri’s in-&-under clearance work at stoppages helping to move the ball forwards to the likes of Lucy (year 9), Sarah & Tasia. Midfielders Liv & Taylor also demonstrated their toughness & competitiveness, never shirking a contest, whilst defenders Vanessa, Aya, Aditi & Lilli were rock solid all day, with Aditi sustaining a fractured finger for her troubles! Coached by Ms. Leahy, the team will now turn their attention to Regionals on Tuesday July 29th, where greater challenges await…

Junior, Intermediate & Senior boys Netball:

“Here, if you need” was the phrase of the day, as numerous boys Netball teams (from years 8-12) played their round robin tournament against a variety of opposition.

Coached by Year 10 student Scarlett, the Intermediate boys team showed clear improvement throughout the day’s play, whilst the Senior team (coached by year 11 student Leah & College captain Abbey) also showed positive signs & teamplay, where they narrowly missed out on a grand final berth.

It was pleasing to see so many students willing to challenge themselves & give it their all!
