Autumn Afternoon Recap
On Saturday 10 May, we had our first Autumn Afternoon between the Nossal bands and Casey bands. I am a member of the Casey Concert band, which is a local community band passionate about creating music and performs for the wider community many times a year.
The Casey Big Band is a community band of a similar nature, with a focus on jazz and swing music - and I am very honoured to be the bridge between the Casey bands and the Nossal bands.
This Autumn Afternoon was an amazing opportunity for the nossal wind symphony and big band students to gain more performance experience playing music with the people of the wider community, and hearing music of a much higher difficulty than we usually play.
The afternoon began with the Nossal Big Band performance, followed by the Casey Big Band performance. After an interval, the Nossal Wind Symphony performed, followed by the Casey Concert band performance.
The afternoon ended with a combined piece between the Nossal Wind Symphony and Casey Concert band, conducted by Greg Marks, director of the Casey Concert band.
This concert would never have been possible without the work of Ms Budd who organised this concert, Ms Oliver who led our Wind Symphony, Greg Marks who led the Casey Concert Band and Brad Inman who led the Casey Big Band.
I am very grateful that my two worlds of music in and out of school have been able to collaborate, and hope this will continue to be an event that I can keep coming back to as a member of the Casey Concert Band after I graduate Nossal.
