National Careers Week 2025 – 12 to 18 May
Every May, National Careers Week (NCW) is a one-stop shop for exploring career education, information and guidance. Whether you’re just starting out, looking for a change, or upskilling for the ever-evolving job market, NCW helps you take charge of your future and invest in your career development. Brought to you by the Career Industry Council of Australia, this exciting initiative celebrates the vibrant world of careers, shining a spotlight on career development, essential services, and the dedicated professionals who guide you on your career journey. The theme for NCW this year was "Future Frontiers: Navigating New Career Pathways". The 2025 National Careers Week series included a number online events which will be available to watch on-demand. Charles Sturt University Career Discovery Series – 13 to 22 May
Join CSU online to discover your dream career – and how to get there! Students can go behind the scenes of their dream career. Hear from guest speakers with sessions on more than 10 different industries. Sessions include information and library studies, health, animal, equine and veterinary sciences, law and criminal justice, psychology, agriculture and environmental sciences, business and accounting, social work and human services, tech industry, and engineering. Discover diverse career opportunities. Learn what it’s really like to study with CSU and get tips on applying. Check out the CSU Discover Series to register for an upcoming session and recordings of past sessions will be available soon.
Monash University: Business Explorer 2025 – applications close 23 June
Business Explorer, held on 8 and 17 July 2025, gives students hands-on experience in the world of business. Through interactive games, quizzes and case studies, students get to discover the world of start-ups, brands, stock markets and more! It will take place at Monash’s Caulfield campus with the day starting at 9:30am and finishing at 3:15pm. Each of the days will run in the same way and feature the same great sessions – offering students the choice to pick the day that suits you best. They have the option to choose three taster sessions in accounting, banking and finance, economics, analytics, entrepreneurship, management, and marketing to experience on the day. Applications close on 23 June 2025. Places are strictly limited to senior students studying VCE Units 1 - 4 only and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Find out more and register here.
NIDA’s Open Day – Saturday 14 June, 9:30am to 3:30pm
Thinking about a career in theatre, film, television, dance, opera, or live events? Interested in studying at NIDA, or just curious about what they offer? NIDA Open Day 2025 is your chance to explore pathways across a range of disciplines into the industry and experience life at one of the world’s leading performing arts institutions. 2026 NYSF Year 12 program – applications from Yr11 students close 20 June
The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) runs their Year 12 program to give students that are about to start year 12 a broader understanding of study and career options available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Go here to learn more about the 2026 NYSF Year 12 program including details about location, dates, costs and funding assistance. Year 11 students interested in applying are to use the information on this How to Apply webpage to check their eligibility and understand the application process. Applications close 20 June 2025. NYSF encourages applicants to start their application early to have time to complete the application and gather any required information.
BUFTA 2025 short film competition open for submissions until 15 September
Entries to the 2025 Bond University Film and Television Awards (BUFTA) are now open for Year 11 and 12 students. These awards provide students with the opportunity to showcase their filmmaking talent on the national and global stage. The Year 12 awarded Best Overall Filmmaker will receive a full scholarship to study the Bachelor of Film and Television at Bond University in Gold Coast, QLD. There are a variety of other prizes up for grabs across all categories. Interested students are encouraged to read all the information on the BUFTA website taking note of the Important Dates, these Resources to assist you in entering this competition, and how to enter. Entries close Monday 15 September 2025.
A Day in the Life of a Swinburne Student – September school holiday events
Swinburne University hosted over 450 secondary students for their A Day in the Life of a Swinburne Student events in April. Students were able to select from over 30 workshops based on course content from certificates, diplomas and degrees across STEM, health, aviation, creative, social impact and innovation. Students were also treated to academic lectures from Swinburne Professors and Senior Lecturers. The success of these immersion days means that they will be back in the September school holidays and interested students are encouraged to get in early to express their interest for these September events.

The Young Australians in International Affairs Podcast explores global issues shaping our world from the perspective of Australia's next generation of leaders.
