School Captain's Report

As we move through Term 2, the school continues to be a vibrant and dynamic space that is filled with events, opportunities and important milestones. Here is a brief overview of recent happenings and upcoming initiatives.
On the first day back in Term 2, Nossal had its ANZAC Day Assembly, a time for solemn reflection and gratitude. We were honoured to have the Australian CADETS join us to perform a formal ceremony, adding great significance to the occasion. Their presence and contribution alongside the Year 12 House Captains and speeches made by the School Captains—particularly Kylinda who went to Gallipoli, Turkey last year as part of learning about ANZAC Day, helped create a respectful and meaningful atmosphere as we acknowledged the service and sacrifice of those who have served in the armed forces.
As we settled into the new term, we had Parent Teacher Interviews, a valuable opportunity to reflect on academic progress, set goals, and strengthen communication between home and school. We hope these conversations provided clarity and support as we move into a busy term of SACs and assessments. While the interviews were quite insightful, this gave the SRC the opportunity to sell raffle tickets for Nossal Week. From prizes such as car service deals to food vouchers from everyone’s favourite cuisines, the SRC managed to get in excess of $1,500across the duration of the interviews! Through their hard effort and collaboration, they are working very hard during this busy term.
If you haven’t gotten a raffle ticket yet, make sure you purchase a ticket for only 2 dollars, for a chance to win many fun and exciting gifts such as a BMW Voucher, a Portmans Voucher, a surplus of food vouchers and many more! Raffles will be available throughout Nossal Week, so be sure to get involved and support our student-led initiatives.
Speaking of Nossal Week, the School Captains have been working very hard to make Nossal Week a fun week for everyone. From club initiatives, Fairy Floss, Free Dress Day, Staff vs Student events and many more exciting events, we are so excited for you all to enjoy the time to celebrate the values of Nossal and yourselves as proud Nossal students. So, keep your ears open for any announcements across the speaker about the fun events happening each day.
The Athletics Carnival was a vibrant day filled with energy, house spirit, and healthy competition. A special thank you to the School Leaders and SRC for running the Sausage Sizzle, with all proceeds going towards the Nossal 4 Nossal fund. We are also grateful to the Rotary Club for joining us on the day to serve warm beverages—hot coffee and hot chocolate were very much appreciated given the chilly weather. Congratulations to Griffin, Phoenix, Garuda, and Pegasus for their strong performances across a range of events. Whether you were competing, cheering from the sidelines, or assisting with the event’s logistics, your contribution helped make the day a memorable and successful one.
Our 2025 school production, Frozen: The Musical, is fast approaching! With rehearsals in full swing, the cast and crew have been working incredibly hard to bring this magical story of Anna and Elsa to life. Be sure to purchase a ticket and support your peers in what promises to be an unforgettable performance.
We understand that this period is particularly demanding for our senior students, with several SACs approaching. This week includes the Psychology SAC on Friday, followed by English and Chemistry next week, Specialist Mathematics tomorrow, Mathematical Methods in less than two weeks. Please remember to pace yourself, stay organised, and prioritise your wellbeing during this busy time.
Year 12 students recently took part in a Sexual Education session designed to promote respectful relationships, informed discussions around consent, and personal safety. These conversations are an essential part of our growth both within and beyond school, and we commend all students for engaging with maturity, thoughtfulness, and openness. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Mr Jose, Lisa Burke, and Ashton Chatfield for organising and delivering such a valuable and insightful session for our cohort.
The Autumn Afternoon Concert, held on 10 May, was a brilliant celebration of Nossal’s musical talent and creativity. From soloists to ensembles, the performances reflected the hard work and dedication of our students. Congratulations to all performers for their artistry and professionalism. A heartfelt thank you to Ms Budd and our Music Captains for their leadership in organising and hosting such a memorable event—it was a true testament to the strength and passion of our Performing Arts community.
As we continue through what will undoubtedly be a challenging term with numerous assessments, there are still many exciting events on the horizon for everyone to look forward to. Please remember to take care of yourselves, stay balanced, and reach out if you need support. We’re all in this together—let’s continue to make the most of the opportunities ahead.
With warm regards
The School Captain Team
