Year 10 Japanese Excursion

On the 1st of May, the students of the Year 10 Japanese class visited Melbourne city to explore Japanese culture and traditions.

At the National Gallery of Victoria, students toured an exhibition showcasing large array of the many types of traditional Japanese art, from a breathtaking dish displaying a map of Japan's prefectures to indescribable shapes formed from continuous strands of bamboo. These pieces helped us to understand the significance of art in Japan’s history, challenging ourselves to interpret the various displays.

Later, at the Consulate General of Japan in Melbourne, students got the chance to meet the Consul General himself, along with the rest of the Consulate staff for a talk on the evolution of Japanese technology, their impact and their future plans.

A highlight would be our introduction to Paro, a charming robot seal designed to comfort residents in aged care homes that can respond to human voices and actions.

To finish off the day, we enjoyed a filling ramen lunch at Ikkoryu Fukuoka, having the chance to try various traditional flavours of ramen broths and choose from a large assortment of ingredients.

A cheerful thanks to Kamimura Sensei and Kaori Sensei for organizing and making this excursion possible!
