Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 4!!
While we are only 2 weeks into the last term of the year, there are a lot of learning activities, exam preparations, excursions, incursions and Information and Parent Teacher Nights that have occurred already.
In the first week of term, we hosted our Parent-Teacher conferences. These were generally well attended and provided students and families with valuable information to assist learning progression and success moving forward. Thank-you to all our staff who spend considerable time preparing for these conferences. I would also like to thank our families who were in attendance. Given the positive benefits of having good communication and understanding between our families and the school, as part of the Oberon High School learning community. Research demonstrates that strong school and family relationships help deliver stronger student performances over time. We welcome the opportunity to work collaboratively with our families to best support all students through their educational journey here at Oberon.
This week has also seen our Arts Showcase and Year 7 Information Night occurring. While these are separate events, they are designed to exhibit what our talented students are able to create, while also providing parents with lots of relevant information for our new students in 2027. The Arts Showcase certainly highlights the skills and creativity of students and the artwork that they produce but also acknowledges the supportive work that our talented staff offer to assist students as they progress throughout their journey. The Showcase also allows our students with passions and interests in the field of the Arts to be formally acknowledged and recognised, which is an important part of the Oberon High School culture.
I would also like to recognise and acknowledge our Year 12 students, who are close to formally completing their high school studies over the next few weeks. All our Year 12’s have been undertaking practice exams, finalising work requirements, planning for their official Celebration Day, as well as preparing for their respective formal exams which begin on October 27th. We wish our students the very best for the upcoming exams and look forward to the Valedictory Dinner on Monday 23rd of November. While there may be some nervous Year 12’s, I am sure that they are all looking forward to officially finishing their high school journey.
I would like to thank all of our parents for your support throughout this year, as well as encourage our school community to support us by advocating to local State and Federal members, particularly given the up-coming State election. The more voices we have for better support and resources being provided to the school, the more opportunities that students will have moving ahead. In a growing community such as Armstrong Creek and its surrounds, we need all of the support possible, so that we can maximise the possibilities available to our students with their educational outcomes. If you have any queries, please feel free to contact the school.
As a final note, I would again like to raise some general safety concerns with students riding E-Scooters to and from school. I have witnessed students not following basic road rules and potentially creating traffic issues where accidents could occur. Students also need to ride slowly when on footpaths, given the local community are entering or exiting parking lots or their own homes, unable to see some of the students. E-Scooters should also not be ridden through local shopping centres, ensuring that we are respectful of our local community. I would ask all parents to support us in making sure that every student is riding safely to and from school, while respecting our community and the general road rules that apply to everyone using our roads and footpaths. I thank you in advance, for supporting us in this manner.
