Foundation: Mrs Fleming

Welcome back to Term 4! We hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing school holiday break and is feeling refreshed and ready for another exciting term. We have lots of wonderful learning opportunities ahead of us, and we are looking forward to our final term in Foundation.

In Mathematics, we have been exploring our topic of Data. The Foundation students have been learning how to sort and organise information, ask questions and collect data to find out more about the world around them. They have worked hard throughout this unit and have done a fantastic job demonstrating their understanding of these important skills.

In Literacy, we have been working hard learning several new digraphs since we returned from the holidays. The Foundation students have been practising reading and writing words containing these digraphs and developing their handwriting skills by correctly forming letters on dotted third lines. It has been wonderful to see their confidence and skills continue to grow as they put their learning into practice.

Last week, we headed outdoors for a fun Properties Hunt as part of our InitialWrite program. The students explored our schoolyard, searching for objects with different properties and discussing what they noticed. Afterwards, they used their discoveries as inspiration for their writing. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect our learning with the world around us while building our vocabulary and writing skills.

Grade 1/2: Mrs McKiernan & Mrs Tyler

Welcome back to Term 4! It has been wonderful to see the Grade 1 students return refreshed and excited for the final term of the year. The students have loved catching up with their friends, sharing stories about their holidays and settling back into our classroom routines. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting term of learning together!

In English, we have really enjoyed exploring our storybook Shuffle, Bounce, Leap and Wild Moves. Through this engaging text, we have been learning all about the different features and movements of animals. We have also had lots of fun discovering and using new movement verbs to describe how animals move, helping us to expand our vocabulary and make our writing more interesting and descriptive.

In Maths, we have been learning about location and using important positional language such as forwards, backwards, left and right. A highlight so far has been creating our own obstacle courses and taking turns guiding a partner through them using our new location vocabulary. It has been a fun and hands-on way to put our learning into practice!

Grade 3: Miss Taylor

Welcome back to Term 4! We hope everyone had a wonderful break and is feeling refreshed and ready for our final term of Grade 3. We have jumped straight back into learning, and with so many exciting things coming up, it is shaping up to be a fantastic few weeks!

In English, we have started a brand-new class novel, His Name Was Walter by Emily Rodda, which is inspiring us to write our very own mystery adventure narratives! We are currently deep in the planning stage, developing our characters and settings and dreaming up the adventures our readers will soon get to enjoy. Ask your mini-author at home what their story is going to be about — there are some very exciting ideas brewing!

In Maths, we have hit the ground running with addition and subtraction worded problems. These have been a little tricky at times, but our persistent Grade 3s aren't giving up! We have been building up our "tools in our toolbox", exploring different strategies we can use to tackle equations and solve problems. We are learning that sometimes we need to try a different tool, take a deep breath and have another go!

We have said goodbye to Science for the year and welcomed Humanities back into our weekly schedule. Our new topic, "Comparing Australia to Its Neighbours", has already sparked plenty of curiosity and discussion. We have been locating Australia on the world map, using directional language, discovering the countries around us and learning about the hemispheres, the equator and our surrounding oceans. Humanities is always a crowd favourite, and we love seeing just how eager our Grade 3s are to learn more about the world around them!

There are also so many exciting experiences to look forward to this term, including our Grade 3/4 Summer Sports Day, our Grade 3/4 piano excursion and a very special visit and workshop from THE Andrew Chinn! We have lots to look forward to, and we can't wait to make the most of these opportunities together.

We know we are on the home stretch of the school year, but we also know our Grade 3s have what it takes to do more than just reach the finish line — they're ready to smash it! Let's keep those positive attitudes, persistent mindsets and enthusiastic learning vibes going right through to the end!

Grade 4/5: Mrs Stock

We hope everyone had a lovely and relaxing holiday! We have certainly hit the ground running this term, with our Grade 5 students heading off to camp in Queenscliff. From all reports, they had a fantastic time! Boogie boarding was definitely a highlight, with students having a ball catching waves and enjoying time in the water. There were plenty of smiles, laughter and wonderful memories made along the way. Camp was a fantastic opportunity for students to try new experiences, build friendships and develop their independence. It certainly sounds like a great time was had by all!

While the Grade 5s were away, our Grade 4 students were busy getting stuck into their new English novel, His Name Was Walter. They also spent time developing their computer skills using Excel, creating tables and graphs to organise and present data. Since returning from camp, our Grade 5 students have begun reading their new novel, Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow.

In Religion, we have started our new unit, Discovering Our Christian Heritage. Students have been learning about Abraham and the special covenant (promise) God made with him. We have also explored other important covenants from the Old Testament, including those involving Noah and Moses, and discussed how these connect to Jesus and the New Testament. Students have been reflecting on the importance of promises, relationships and shared responsibilities.

Sport has also been keeping us busy! This week, our Grade 5 students attended the 5/6 Summer Sports in Kyabram, enjoying the opportunity to participate alongside students from other schools. Next week, it will be the Grade 4s' turn as they head to Tongala for the 3/4 Summer Sports. We wish them all the best!

It has been a busy and exciting start to the term, and we look forward to all the wonderful learning and activities still to come!
