World Mission Month

October is World Mission Month, a time when Catholics around the world are encouraged to think about how we can make a difference in the lives of others through kindness, compassion and action. It is an opportunity for us to reflect on how we can care for others, particularly those who may not have access to the same opportunities and resources that we do.

As part of World Mission Month, we are looking forward to welcoming Rachel from Catholic Mission Australia to St Patrick's on Tuesday 20 October. Rachel will be working with all students across the school, leading interactive workshops that encourage them to learn about the experiences of children around the world.

Each class will participate in an age-appropriate workshop:

  • Foundation – Grade 2: Know Me – Students will explore stories from around the world using everyday objects, helping them develop empathy and an understanding of how other children live.
  • Grade 3/4: Dramatic Pictures – Through images and discussion, students will explore real-life stories and make connections with the experiences of children their own age in different parts of the world.
  • Grade 5/6: Haves/Have Nots – Students will explore the differences in access to resources and opportunities around the world, encouraging them to think about fairness, equality and the challenges faced by others.

These workshops are a wonderful opportunity for our students to look beyond their own experiences, ask questions and develop a greater understanding of the world around them.

They also connect beautifully with our Brigidine values of Strength and Kindliness, reminding us that even small actions can make a difference and that we all have a role to play in creating a kinder and more compassionate world.

Andrew Chinn Visiting St Patrick's!

We are very excited to welcome Australian Catholic singer and songwriterAndrew Chinn to St Patrick's on Friday 23 October for a day filled with music, singing and celebration!

Andrew is a well-known musician in Catholic primary schools across Australia and beyond. A former primary school teacher, he has spent many years writing and performing songs that help children explore their faith in fun, meaningful and engaging ways. His music is enjoyed in Catholic schools, particularly during liturgies, prayer celebrations and school gatherings, with songs that encourage students to reflect on themes of faith, hope, kindness, belonging and community.

Throughout the morning, all students will have the opportunity to work with Andrew in smaller groups. Our Foundation–Grade 2 students will participate in a workshop, followed by our Grade 3–6 students. A selected group of up to 24 students will also take part in a special choir workshop, working more closely with Andrew to prepare for the concert.

The highlight of the day will be our whole-school concert from 11:40 am – 12:40 pm in the Cill Dara, where all students will join Andrew in performing a selection of his songs.

We warmly invite parents, grandparents, families and members of our wider school community to come along and enjoy the concert with us!

We are looking forward to a wonderful day of music, participation and celebration, bringing our school community together through song.

Scripture Reflection

"Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me."

Matthew 25:40 (NRSV Catholic Edition)

During World Mission Month, we are reminded that we all have a part to play in making the world a kinder and more caring place. Jesus teaches us that when we show compassion, kindness and generosity to others, we are also showing our love for God.

We don't need to do something big to make a difference. Small acts of kindness, including helping someone in need, including others and standing up for what is right, can have a positive impact on those around us.

Reflection Question:

What is one small action I can take to make a difference in someone else's life?
