Wear It Purple Day

Supporting the LGBTQIA+ youth in our community
On Friday 29th of August, the Wellbeing team organised a day of celebration dedicated to empowering the LGBTQIA+ youth within our school to express their passion and pride. On this day, everyone is encouraged to wear purple to show their support to their fellow students.
Wear it Purple was initially founded in 2010 in response to struggles students faced in the lack of acceptance of their sexuality or gender identity.
86% of LGBTQIA+ youth said just seeing someone wearing rainbow accessories made them feel safer.
55%of queer youth said they’ve been discriminated against due to their LGBTQIA+ identity.

These annual events are run in various schools across Australia to show support and to bring awareness to these issues.
The day included a range of activities for students, such as music, games, chalk art, and bracelet-making, with the wellbeing team running both a popcorn and fairy floss machine.
We appreciate the immense time and effort the wellbeing team put into running the event, its success can be attributed to them and those involved in its organisation. Tarneit Senior College is proud of all our students and the support they showed to their peers.
