Choir

From Sophie and Lily, Choir Captains:

A few weeks ago, the choir went on an excursion outside of school. We went to Caulfield Grammar School in Wheelers Hill to participate in the Junior Choral Festival. When we arrived we went into a huge auditorium. 

There were many different choirs from around Melbourne. In turn, each choir performed two songs. We were second to perform. We sang "Zum Gali Gali" with Annabelle playing ukulele, and "My Favourite Things" with EJ's mum, Emma, playing the piano. Being watched by so many other singers was a little overwhelming… and I forgot all the lyrics as soon as I walked onto the stage, but when we started I remembered. We were expecting the other groups to be much more advanced than us, but the skill levels were quite spread out and we did really well. Mrs Paech got a lot of compliments from the other choir conductors.

After each group performed, we all sang a group song together called "Pretty Saro." It was amazing and shocking to hear so many voices together surrounding us. Our voices sounded better in such a large group with everyone singing. We didn't know what we were going to hear next. Overall the performance was mesmerising. We really enjoyed performing something we worked really hard on. We'd like to thank Emma and Annabelle for their music, and to Mrs Paech for taking us.

We are super excited to be performing our show "SMPPS News" for you this week. Our show is a news program featuring reports about what's going on at South Melbourne Park. We talk about our values, specialist subjects and events, and then classes dance.

We have over twenty cast members from 5/6 acting as reporters and interviewees, and crew members running the show from backstage. All the students have been working hard for months to prepare and we are almost ready to show you our moves. We've collaborated and rehearsed to make this a memorable event.

There are lots of things happening. On Friday we had a whole school rehearsal where we finally got to see what all the other classes are doing. We tried on our costumes afterwards. We'd like to thank all the parent volunteers who are helping us by sewing, cutting, glueing and upcycling our costumes. A special shout-out to our parent representatives for each class. 

Our production team - Lou Pederson, Clare Ridgway, Eris Yap and of course Mrs Paech - have been working hard to create this experience for everyone. We still have some roles to fill if you're able to volunteer a little of your time. The Sign Up Genius is live with tasks that are needed before, during and after the performances.

This Wednesday is our dress rehearsal and we'll get to practise with the stage for the first time. We'll perform the same show twice for you, on Thursday and Friday next week at 2pm. The gate and door will open at 1:30pm so we can start on time. 

Tickets are selling fast, but there are plenty more available for both shows. Get yours now! Our ticket sales will help to pay for hiring the stage, and we thank you for your support to make our performance better and allow the students to experience being on a real stage.
