Class 1 News
Erin McGroarty
Dear Class 1 Families,
It has been a wonderful start to Term 2 in Class One. We began the term immersed in Dreaming stories and other Aboriginal stories from around Australia. Each morning a new story was brought and the following day, the children recalled these stories through dramatic performance. The children became plants, animals, weather, people and Spirit Beings, experiencing these stories deeply. Class One are incredibly enthusiastic actors, and it has been amazing to see the remarkable level of detail they are able to remember and recreate together.
The children have also been very proudly using their knowledge of the alphabet to begin writing, discovering with great excitement how letters can come together to form words. We have been working on writing simple sentences from our stories, listening carefully for the sounds at the beginning of words and rereading our writing together as a class.
The weather has been absolutely glorious in the afternoons, allowing for long stretches of beautiful outdoor play. These moments have felt sacred at times, gathering delicious black mulberries, swinging together on the tyre swing, and collaboratively constructing an elaborate “frog village.”
Warmly,
Erin
