Term 2, Week 4, 2026

Upcoming Dates

  • Please see page 2 for the whole school event dates, however keep watching this space as our 5/6’s get very busy as the year progresses.

General News

This term has started with plenty of exciting learning opportunities across our 5/6 building.

Students have begun engaging with our new STEAM topics, with our Grade 5 students exploring robotics and our Grade 6 students investigating sustainability through the creation and maintenance of worm farms. For our worm farms we are currently seeking donations of clean polystyrene boxes so if you have any spare boxes at home or through your workplace, we would greatly appreciate your support.

Students have begun their new Science unit, with students already showing great curiosity and enthusiasm in their learning. They have also completed their current Mathematics unit of Fractions and are continuing to look at Information Reports in Literacy.

Our Student Representative Council (SRC) has organised a dance fundraiser to support the wonderful work of the Ronald McDonald House. Details were shared via Compass last week and we encourage families to support this worthwhile cause. The students have thoroughly enjoyed dancing in the hub for 15 minutes each lunch time.

Finally, our Gugu Reward Canteen supplies are running low, which is actually fantastic news! It means so many students have been recognised for their positive behaviour and efforts, earning the opportunity to access the reward canteen. Thank you for continuing to support and encourage our students in demonstrating our school values every day.

Next Fortnight

In Mathematics, our focus will be ‘Money and Finance’ and in Literacy, ‘Persuasive Writing’. During week 5, students will participate in quite a few assessment tasks in order to celebrate their achievements and to assist teacher planning for future lessons.

As always, thank you for your support, it is always fantastic when our whole community can work together to educate and support the children of SGPS.

Warm regards,

The Grade 5/6 Team
