Engagement & Wellbeing

Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships:
This term, our Grade 3–4 students have been exploring Topic 2 of the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program, focusing on Personal Strengths. Through class discussions, games, partner activities and creative tasks, students have been learning to recognise the positive qualities in themselves and others. We explored how everyone has different strengths, talents and interests, and how these can help us build confidence, friendships and resilience.
Students participated in a range of engaging activities, including identifying character strengths, creating “strength shields,” compliment circles, and reflecting on times they have shown perseverance, kindness, creativity or teamwork. These activities encouraged students to celebrate their own achievements while also learning how to give meaningful encouragement and positive feedback to their classmates.
Programs such as these play an important role in helping children develop the personal and social skills needed to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. By building self-awareness, confidence, empathy and respectful communication, students are developing into thoughtful, resilient and well-rounded young people who are better prepared to contribute positively to the wider community and the world around them.
We are very excited to announce our Whole School Rewards for Term 2. Students were surveyed last term to find out the rewards that they thought would be the best ways to celebrate their successes earning Gugu Stickers. Stickers are awarded to students when they demonstrate our school values of Responsibility, Resilience and Respect and particularly when they show the specific expectations on their class's SWPBS Expected Behaviour Matrix.
Students had indicated that having a special meal would be a great Level 2 reward, so we enlisted our SRC to find out what sort of reward food would be most appealing. From these results, the Term 2 SWPBS Whole School Rewards will be:
Level 1 - Mega Recess
(on one day, recess will be extended so that everyone has more time to play!)
Level 2 - Chipnic
(with optional gravy - thanks SRC for this extra detail)
Our SRC have been working exceptionally hard to create a plan for fun and fundraising This week, we are very excited to be launching our first session of Sports Club! Our SRC students have organised a rotation of fun, sports-based games that will run fortnightly in the Manya, alternating between junior and senior students to ensure both safety and maximum fun for everyone involved.
This week’s activity is dodgeball with our junior students, and we know there will be plenty of energy, teamwork, and smiles involved. A huge thank you to our SRC students for generously volunteering their lunch times to organise and facilitate these activities for our school community.
We would also like to extend a huge and heartfelt thank you to our entire Spring Gully community. When our SRC decided to participate in the Dance for Sick Kids fundraiser in support of the incredible work of Ronald McDonald House, they set themselves a goal of raising $500, with the incentive of teachers performing a dance at assembly if the target was reached.
Well… as of the time of writing, we have absolutely blown past that goal! We have currently raised an amazing $1242. Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported this wonderful cause — your generosity will help make a real difference to sick children and their families. The impact of our fundraising can be seen in the graphic below! Amazing!

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge
So far we have 12 students who have begun their Premier’s Reading Challenge from home. These students have read a combined total of 151 books! What an amazing start for these students.
Some classes have also began their Challenge as a class and are getting through some books very quickly!
If you are yet to start your Challenge from home, I look forward to seeing more logged books appear in the next few weeks!
Happy reading everyone.
