Dragon Mile Winners
It was wonderful to welcome Nadene and Keith McDonald from the Bendigo Harriers Athletics Club to our recent assembly, where they presented trophies to members of our successful ‘Dragon Mile’ teams.
Our school was proudly represented, with Dusty M, Elyse H and Isla C combining to win the Primary Schools Girls Grade 4 Team event. Max H, Lenny M and Sonny R also achieved outstanding success, taking out the Grade 5–6 Team event.
In recognition of these achievements, the school was awarded a perpetual shield for each event. A fantastic effort by all involved!
Auslan News
Grade Preps are continuing with their topic on Farm Animals, and practising the signs for: farm, farmer, tractor, animal, cow, bull, sheep, lamb, duck, pig, horse, dog, cat, donkey, snake, kangaroo, mouse, goat, rooster, chicken, rabbit, goose, frog, and fish.
See how many of the farm animal signs your child/ren can teach you at home!
Preps are continuing to add to their Old MacDonald Had a Farm mini-books. They have completed a Farm Animals jigsaw that they will be bringing home to sign.
Grade 1-6s have continued discussing Deaf Culture and practising signs that are important in explaining Deaf Culture, including: Deaf Culture, respect, Auslan, sign language, interpreter, deaf, Hard-of-hearing, hearing, people, eye contact, hearing aid and Cochlear.
After learning how the parts of the ear work in Term 1, all Grade 1-6s have now gained a deeper understanding of how the Cochlear ear implant works. The children are quite fascinated by this and there has been a lot of discussion about hearing aids and the Cochlear.
Grade 1-2s have enjoyed learning about the Australian Lions Hearing Assistance Dogs. Students designed their own new logo/icon/emoji to represent something important in Deaf Culture, or something that represents the Deaf Community! There were so many amazing and innovative ideas for new technology and new logo designs presented by the Grade 1-2s.
Grade 1-2s are starting a new topic on Animals this week and have played some rounds of Animal Celebrity Head to revise some Animal names.
Grade 3-4s have continued to look at First Nations perspectives within the topic of Deaf Culture. Grade 3-4s have also all now presented their Medical signs PowerPoints and lead their peers in sign practise for this topic. A top effort by the Grade 3-4 students!
😊 Please enjoy the attached photos of some of the Grade 3-4s leading sign practise through their PowerPoints.
Grade 5-6s have been engaged in interesting conversations about the Cochlear implant including some facts about Melbourne inventor and surgeon Dr. Graeme Clark, as well as how the Cochlear works. Grade 5-6s are revising signs for Days of the Week and Months of the Year, and using these signs in impromptu signed conversations with a partner, and through some games.
