Grade 3/4 News

Term 2, Week 4

Reminders:

  • Friday 29th - Curriculum Day
  • Please encourage your child to bring warm layers as we approach the cooler months. Labelled clothing really helps lost items find their way back to their owners.

Welcome back to the 3/4 page.

Our Student Representative Council (SRC) has recently organised a dance fundraiser to support the wonderful work of the Ronald McDonald House. Details were shared via Compass and we encourage families to support this worthwhile cause. Many students have thoroughly enjoyed dancing in the hub for 15 minutes each lunch time.

We now also have some of our 3/4 students involved in the Green Team with Mr. Lidgett. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage with local community members and to learn more about the environment, covering all things 'science and sustainability' along the way. Watch this space!

Literacy

In Literacy, students have been revising sentence structures while exploring language and text features across a variety of texts. As part of our persuasive writing focus, students have been creating their own pieces inspired by their learning about plastic and ways to create positive change. A key focus has also been developing reading fluency skills. Students have been building their confidence when reading aloud with peers, while reflecting on their progress and setting personal goals for themselves.

Numeracy

Students have recently completed a unit on fractions and money-based problem-solving. Throughout the unit, students developed their understanding of fractions by applying fraction knowledge to solve practical problems and explain their mathematical thinking. They also explored the concept of money, using dollars and cents to calculate totals and change while planning a day out at a theme park and working within a budget to avoid overspending! This was a little trickier than students first thought but a great challenge.

Next Fortnight

Over the coming weeks, students will be exploring ‘Probability’ in Mathematics and ‘Poetry’ in Literacy. They will investigate the language features and structures used in different types of poems, with mentor texts highlighting the creativity and expression involved in poetry writing.

In our Topic unit, Blue Marble, students will continue learning about Earth and the important role people play in caring for our planet’s future. They will also discover the weird and wonderful animals found across the globe.

During Week 5, students will complete a range of assessment tasks to celebrate their learning achievements and support teacher planning for future lessons.
