Feast of Blessed St Mary Mackillop 

On Saturday 8th August, the Catholic community of Australian and around the world gather to celebrate and remember Australia’s first saint, Blessed St Mary Mackillop.  She is a well-known figure in the Catholic community of Melbourne, having founded many schools in the city and surrounding suburbs to educate the children of Melbourne. 

Blessed St Mary Mackillop lived by the motto, "Never see a need without doing something about it."  These are words that she acted every day in the service of others.  She remains a local and relatable model of service to the community of St Joseph the Worker.  

Prayer through Blessed St Mary Mackillop 

Bountiful and loving God, 

You have filled the heart of Mary Mackillop with compassionate love for those who are in need at the margins of our society. 

Deepen that love within us that we may embrace the mystery of the Cross which leads us through death and life. 

We ask this in the Spirit of Jesus who having broken the bonds of death lead us to everlasting life.

The Feast of the Assumption 

On Saturday 15th August, the entire Catholic community around the world, gather and

celebrate Mary, Mother of God, being assumed into Heaven.  On this day we give thanks for Mary and her care of Jesus and her service to others as the first follower of Jesus.  Many people will celebrate by attending church, praying the Rosary and reflecting on the ways we can be actively more like Mary in our thoughts, actions and words.  We too, can take a few moments to stop, reflect on the life and actions of Mary and give thanks for the 

life and example she gave. 

To celebrate this day of Solemnity, students will participate in a prayer service held at the school on Friday 14th August.
