Year 5/6 Learning Reflection

In Literacy, Grade 6 students have continued to write their recount about the 1967 Referendum. 

They have been reading about the treatment and discrimination of the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Island people during this time, crucial events leading up to the vote and how life changed for the better for Native Australians after the referendum. They then took their own notes, and used SPOs (single paragraph outlines) a topic sentence, support sentences and concluding sentence, to help them draft clear paragraphs for their recounts. 

They have also been reading about the lives of individuals and how they were affected during this time and in the past, as part of our Systemic Knowledge History work around Federation and Nationhood.

Students will be publishing their writing and displaying this in the hallway in B. Keep any eye out for their awsome work!

The Grade 5 students have been planning, writing and publishing their Magical Realism narratives based on the serial read. 

During Maths, Grade 6 students have been learning about Angles. They have identified and calculated complementary, supplementary angles, measured angles at a point, vertically opposite angles and solved word problems involvling angles. 

Grade 5 have been learning about decimals - rounding numbers with more than two decimal places, writing the standard expanded and non-standard expanded form for numbers to three decimals places and renaming decimals to solve problems.
