Year 5/6 News 

Reading /Spelling

This week, students focused on developing their spelling and reading skills by identifying and applying common spelling patterns. They practiced mapping individual sounds in words, segmenting and blending sounds for spelling and reading, and exploring how prefixes and suffixes can change the meaning of base words. Students also built their understanding of key language concepts such as graphemes, phonemes, digraphs, and trigraphs, while continuing to strengthen their reading fluency by reading smoothly and with expression.

Numeracy 

This week in maths, students focused on developing their skills in long division. They practiced breaking down larger numbers into manageable steps, learning how to divide systematically using the divide, multiply, subtract, and bring down method. Through guided examples and independent work, students built confidence in solving division problems and checking their answers for accuracy.
