Year 1 Update

As we come to the end of a successful Term 1, we would like to thank all of our families for your ongoing support, encouragement and partnership in your child’s learning journey. Our Year 1 students have worked incredibly hard and should feel proud of their growth. Over the holiday break, we encourage everyone to take time to rest and recharge so that students return refreshed, energised and ready to launch into an exciting Term 2. We look forward to another productive term ahead!
Our Learning - Term 2-Weeks 1 & 2
In English, students will: -learn Stage 7.1 digraphs --y, igh, ie, -y. -read words, phrases and sentences with the focus digraphs. -spell and write words with the focus digraphs. -discuss homophones. -identify characters and settings in narratives. -retell events of a story using order language such as first, next, then, finally. -include capital letters and full stops in simple sentences.

In Mathematics, students will: -use efficient counting strategies to add such as counting on from the larger number -record all the ways to make different numbers using number bonds -identify the combinations that make 0-9 -continue to build number fluency through Ninja Number Sliders

In Inquiry students will: -distinguish between the past and present -sequence key events in their life in the form of a timeline -learn how stories and memories help us remember the past and how family roles have changed

In S.E.L (Social, Emotional, Learning), students will: -learn about help seeking and practise skills in peer helping -Share what the problem is and practise ways to seek help from trusted adults |
