Fixtures 28 October

From the Assistant Principal, Cocurricular

Thank you all for your support in ensuring your sons look their best at Saturday sport. May I clarify, closed-toed shoes must be worn at Oxford Falls. 'Crocs' do not fulfil the 'closed-toed shoes' requirement. This is a health and safety requirement.  Please reinforce this with your sons.

I look forward to seeing you all over the coming weeks.  Good luck to all teams in Round 2 of their competitions this weekend.

Mr Matt Stearn - Assistant Principal, Cocurricular

Basketball

Round 1 of the ISA basketball season saw an impressive number of wins to SPX teams playing at home… with all the Ds against Central Coast Grammar School and Es teams against St Andrew's College winning their games. We also had wins for the 13-17Bs teams against Blue Mountains Grammar School, but a tough loss to our 2nd V to their 1sts.

Our Cs teams travelled to Chavalier and had some close games, with our 15Cs taking a very convincing win.

The Fs teams travelled to St Greg's with mixed results.

And finally, our A teams has a very tough round against St Augustine’s, with the 15As result coming down to the last 5 seconds. Similarly, the 13As came just short of an impressive come-back, while the Firsts struggled to close the gap after an unfortunate first quarter.

Good luck to all teams for Round 2.

ISA Round 1 – 1st XI v Oakhill College at Oxford Falls campus #1

1st XI 7 for 259 (Darcy Aylmer 103, Ollie Freeman 94, Pat Frost 30) defeated Oakhill 120 (Andrew May 4 for 29, Lucas Gleeson 2 for 18, Flynn Mansbridge 2 for 14).

The first round of the ISA competition began at Oxford Falls in superb conditions.  Captain Darcy Aylmer won the toss and elected to bat on the superb wicket. After a promising few overs, three wickets were quickly lost with Toby Moran unlucky to be run out at the non-striker’s end by a deflected ball off the bowler’s hand.

At 3 for 24, Darcy Aylmer (103) and Ollie Freeman (94) worked to restore the situation by batting sensibly, hitting the loose balls and running hard between the wickets. Showing great concentration and determination, they continued batting for 37 overs together in an outstanding 188 run partnership. Darcy reached his century soon after Ollie had been dismissed. Pat Frost played just the right aggressive innings of 30 from just 23 balls to consolidate the strong position as the innings finished on an impressive 7 for 259.

Andrew May (4 for 29) and the Captain soon reduced Oakhill to 4 for 12 by straight bowling. Andrew finished with four wickets (three clean bowled and a leg before wicket), while Lucas Gleeson snared two wickets with excellent outfield catches from Darcy and Toby Moran. Flynn Mansbridge also showed the benefit of bowling at the stumps with two wickets. Some late hitting got the opposition over the 100 mark but a convincing victory was gained in the 38th over.

Tennis

It was terrific to see our players enjoying their first round of summer tennis at the Talus St Courts.

I have two thrilling doubles from the 10:00 am games to report. The first, with an intriguing plot twist, as, St Pius 5s, Will Scaff and Antony Autore at 4 sets up looked certain to win, however, St Pius 4s, Lucas Youngman & Aiden Seifert won the next 6 games! The second, a close game that went right down to the wire with a tiebreaker ending. St Pius 7s, Lucas Korth and Lachlan Yu match was intense with plenty of hotly contested points and “oohs and aahs” from the spectators. All four players emerged from the match looking like winners, such was the mix of sportsmanship and high calibre tennis.

Special thanks to Year 10’s Lucas Halim for kindly and generously volunteering to Mentor and Umpire our younger players in the 8:00 am Green Division. Thank you also to all parents and players for a terrific start to the NSTA Tennis. This week’s draw is available in Woodchatta OR you can check the draw online:
