Music Matters

Drumline – I’m very excited to announce that thanks to PAPA, we have been able to purchase a series of new marching drum instruments that allows us to create Drumline ensembles. The Drumline ensemble/s will be an important part of our College community and will perform at assemblies, concerts and other events including some sporting fixtures.

Auditions are starting this afternoon for our new Drumline ensemble/s. Any students learning drums and/or percussion either inside or outside the College have been invited to audition. The number of Drumline ensembles and rehearsal times will be organised following the auditions, with Mr Talati as Ensemble Director.

Head of Publications and St Pius X College old boy, Mr Tony Cunneen, tells me that the marching band tradition has a strong history at the College during the Cadets era. The following photo is taken circa 1968 at a Passing Out Parade.

Investiture: Special thanks to Mrs Stella Talati and the Senior Concert Band for providing music at the Investiture assembly tomorrow at The Concourse. This is a very important occasion for our upcoming Year 12 cohort, and it is wonderful that the Senior Concert Band are able to support this event.

Junior Guitar Workshop

A reminder that Year 5 and 6 students are welcome to attend the Junior Guitar Workshop on Tuesdays at  lunchtime (commencing at 1:00 pm - please eat lunch prior to going to MR1).  This free workshop will teach Junior School students how to play guitar, with a veiw to joining the Junior Guitar Ensemble.

Students do not have to bring any music equipment - just turn up!

If you have any questions, please email Mr Shane Cranney at

Performing Arts Festival

St Pius X College’s annual Performing Arts Festival will occur in Weeks 4 and 5 of this term. Below are the details of each tutor’s concert. Family and friends are invited to attend. Thank you for your ongoing support of your son’s musical development.

Please note the following important information regarding the evening:

  1. Students will be allowed to leave the college and purchase food prior to their performance, and return directly to the college to consume the food.  Students should tell their parents of their intention to do this before the day of their performance so parents are aware of their son's movements.  Students will remain in the Junior School playground or under Big Brother, under the informal eye of the Performing Arts Staff Room.
  2. Correct summer uniform should be worn when performing.  Shirt tucked in, socks pulled up, tie and top button done up.
  3. Parking will be available in the main yard only.  No parking is available in the Junior School playground where students will gather.

Drama

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming showcase on 3 November commencing at 5:30 pm in the Sarto Centre. This will feature performances by all three Drama Ensembles. To ensure a polished performance, students are asked to stay at school on this day for additional rehearsals. If they wish to bring some afternoon tea for a quick refreshment during this time this would be most useful.
