1993 Interhouse Swimming Carnival

These photos were taken at the 1993 Interhouse Swimming Carnival, a time when students compete for house points with their school peers. While fiercely competitive, it’s a ‘carnival’ atmosphere where all students are encouraged to compete. The photos can be viewed in the 1993 Mazenodian. The event was held in the Nunawading pool and Grandin House were the victors on the day although actual points are not to hand.

Apparently, 1993 was a good year for swimming at Mazenod. Between 30-40 students regularly attended training for the EIS (Eastern Independent Schools) swimming competition providing a ‘team of great depth’. Swimming coach, Mr Simon Conlan, wrote in the Mazenodian: Whilst much improved on previous years, it didn’t get them across the line in the EIS Boys Swimming Carnival. The team led for half the night only to be overwhelmed by Whitefriars in the closing events. Next year!
