Principal's Post

Year 12 Finish
My congratulations to all Year 12 students who conducted themselves so beautifully and respectfully in their last week of formal classes. The Valedictory Mass and Dinner was held on Wednesday October 14 at St Simon the Apostle Parish, Rowville, and the final assembly on Thursday October 15. It was a lovely occasion for Year 12 students to express their gratitude to staff, parents, and carers. For many of the Year 12 students this is something of a bitter-sweet experience, some real tension between wanting to move on and wanting to hold on. It is a time, certainly, to look forward in expectation of what might be in the future which, for them, is full of possibility and promise, the exciting challenge of independence, freedom, and self-sufficiency. On behalf of the whole College community, I would like to wish you all the very best for the future.
2027 College Student Leaders Announced
Mazenod College is proud to announce our College Leaders for 2027.
Over recent months, our Year 11 students have been challenged to consider what effective leadership looks like and the impact they can have on those around them. A key part of this process has been courage, shown by those willing to step forward, nominate and put themselves forward for leadership.
While leadership roles have been awarded to a select group, leadership at Mazenod extends beyond a badge or title. Every member of the Class of 2027 has the opportunity to influence others through their character, choices and commitment to our College values.
We commend the Year 11 cohort for the maturity and integrity they have shown throughout this process, and congratulate the following students on their appointments:
College Captain: Angus
Vice-Captains: Samuel and Ben
House Captains:
Albini: Immanuel and Zach
Charlebois: Harjas and Vinley
Gerard: Shevin and Kael
Grandin: Gabriel and Heath
Portfolio Captains:
Faith and Charism: Dyon
Peer Support: Adrian
Academic: Jayden
Drama: Sebastian and Diyen
Debating and Public Speaking: Isindu
Ecology and Sustainability: Akshar
Music: Savi
Visual Arts: Jaydan
Sport: Rahal
Congratulations to our 2027 College Leaders. We look forward to the contribution they will make in the year ahead.
Night of Excellence
The 2026 Night of Excellence will be held on Monday October 26, commencing at 7.00pm at Robert Blackwood Hall, Monash University, where we celebrate the accomplishments of many students in Year 7-11. The evening will highlight the talents of our students in academic achievement, performing and visual arts, sport, and cultural activities. This hopefully sets a standard that, in the future, all students will find aspirational. The major academic performers at each year level will be acknowledged on the evening. During assemblies and special events throughout the year many more students at the respective year levels were acknowledged for Academic Excellence, Christian Leadership and Determination and Persistence. The Spirit of The Oblate Awards consider the contribution all students make to College life. Staff always have the difficult task of narrowing the many worthy recipients to a small number of students at each year level.
Thank you for everything you have done this term to keep Mazenod a safe and vibrant learning community, and to provide your son with opportunities to participate in a full range of activities. I hope you have a well-deserved holiday break with your family and friends.
All the best,
Dr Paul Shannon
Principal
