Sick Bay - Urgent

Lots of clothing has been handed out to students over the past few weeks (various reasons) and our 'spares' cupboard is almost empty. Could families please assist us in washing any clothing that was used and returning ASAP to the school office.

Welcome back for Term 3, I am sure all students and families welcomed the chance for a break from the regular school routine. We have a busy term planned with many exciting learning opportunities and fun community activities.

We commenced the term with a Curriculum Day where our teachers spent some time learning about multiplicative thinking in Maths and also strategies and techniques they can use in the classroom to improve student engagement in learning. The day was facilitated by Mr Condon our Learning Specialist, please read his update in this newsletter.

Carlsruhe National Tree Day

Last Friday I was fortunate to be able to attend the Carlsruhe campus for their activities to celebrate National Tree Day. They commenced the day with a smoking ceremony with an Aboriginal elder from Taungurung Country, they have also been working hard to create a garden filled with indigenous plants with the support of a Resource Smart Schools Co-ordinator from Sustainability Victoria. We are looking forward to seeing this garden grow and develop.

Incursion, Excursions and Events Next Week

A group of our Year 5/6 students have been in training for the district Basketball competition, which is being held next Tuesday. We thank Mr Spilsted for his support with this and wish the teams all the best on the day.

Our Year 1/2 students will be heading out to Hanging Rock on Wednesday as part of their Inquiry Learning Unit about ‘Landmarks’ where they will be exploring the local history, how Hanging Rock has changed over time and discovering what makes it a local landmark.

Also on Wednesday our Foundation students will be celebrating their first 100 days at school, we are looking forward to celebrating with them.

Mr Bromley has organised an incursion for our Year 3-6 students on Thursday, facilitated by Kaboom Percussion. He can’t wait for the students to experience the opportunity to explore the use of everyday items as musical instruments.

Finally on Friday our Year 3 students will be working with Wild Action Zoo to explore ‘How living things grow, change and interact with ecosystems’.

Helpers Needed

Our Canteen and Garden Club are urgently looking for helpers for this term, if you are able to support these important activities in our school it would be greatly appreciated. Without parent helpers the canteen may need to be closed on certain days and the garden club cannot go ahead on Monday lunch times. If you can help in the canteen please check the canteen article for Julie's contact information and if you are interested in supporting garden club please contact our volunteer co-ordinator Nicole Middleton on 0418 233 366. All helpers will require a current Working with Children Check.

Uniform Price Increase

Please note that recently there has been a slight increase in the cost of some of our uniform items. Further information on this can be found on our uniform order list (unform shop page).

eSmart Day

We have been working with the Allanah and Madeline Foundations eSmart Schools program for many years and will be holding an eSmart Day for all our students on Wednesday 13th August. There will be two parent information sessions held, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon on the day. I would highly recommend attendance if you are able. Safety in the online environment is all of our responsibility and as it is an ever-changing landscape there are always new learning opportunities to be had. More information about this day will be published to the community soon.

Book Week

It’s that time of year again, on Wednesday 20th August we will be holding our annul Book Week Parade and open classroom morning. Please mark this date on your calendar as we love welcoming our families into the classroom to explore learning opportunities with their children. All classrooms will be open after the parade, with an activity planned from Foundation to Year 6. We look forward to sharing your child’s favourite book characters with them on the day and a prize will be awarded in each classroom.

I am looking forward to a busy term filled with many learning opportunities for our students.
