Year -1/2 Unit

What a great start to our learning this term, it’s been fantastic to see!

Reading

In Reading, we’ve been exploring personal narratives and learning how to identify stories told in the first person by recognising pronouns such as I, me, my, us, our, myself, mine, and we. We’ve also been making meaningful connections while reading — including text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world connections. The students have loved sharing their ideas with one another and hearing different perspectives. They’re also thoroughly enjoying the wide variety of fiction narratives we’ve been exploring and are getting very excited for Book Week on Wednesday 20th August!

Writing

In Writing, students have been busy creating their very own personal narratives — and the work they’ve produced so far has been incredible! They’ve been learning to write in the first person, and next week, we’ll begin exploring story structure using “first,” “next,” “then,” and “finally.” This sequencing helps students understand that their ideas need to be in chronological order for their writing to make sense to the reader.

Maths

In Maths, students have been learning about multiplication and developing their multiplicative thinking skills. To build a strong foundation, they’ve been exploring equal groups, repeated addition, and skip counting. The students are really enjoying this unit, especially the hands-on activities that support and deepen their learning.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students have been learning about Australian Landmarks. They’ve found this topic fascinating and have enjoyed discovering the many iconic landmarks our beautiful country has to offer.

Reminders

Wednesday 6th August, 10:30am–1:30pm – Hanging Rock Excursion 

Please ensure students are wearing appropriate footwear and clothing. They will need to bring their school bags with lunchboxes and drink bottles. (No lunch orders will be available on this day).

Wednesday 20th August – Book Week Dress-Up Day We can’t wait to see the creative costumes and celebrate our love of books!
