Meet the Board
Allan Long
How many years have you been a part of the MECS community?
I have been a part of the MECS community since 1984, firstly as a teacher, then as a parent, then as a teacher again and educational leader in various roles, and most recently as a grandparent and now a board member.
How long have you been on the MECS Board and what is your favorite part of serving on the Board?
I have been on the board for about one year so far, and I am really enjoying being on the board as it enables me to remain an active member of the MECS community, which I love dearly, despite now being retired from teaching.
If you could holiday anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why?
Probably still in Australia, especially in some of its natural treasures such as Wilson's Prom, The Grampians or Kakadu.
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
Saint Francis of Assisi (but I would need a translator), as I find his beautiful faith, reliance and trust in God, and the outworking lifestyle and servanthood incredibly challenging and inspiring.
What AFL team do you support?
The Mighty Geelong Cats! (Still spewing though about this year's grand final result).
What do you love most about MECS?
Despite our human failings and frailty, there is something truly Christ-centred and God honouring about MECS. It is in the very fibre of MECS, and it is tangibly the 'Vibe' of the place.
Anything else you want to share?
I especially appreciate the multi-generational nature of MECS, and I love bumping into past students, parents and colleagues from over the past 4 decades.
