This edition's student voice article is by Year 12 student Bonnie Foley.
The student leadership council has been a place where I have been able to connect with the other leaders in the 11/12-year group and grow.
Through being Melaleuca house captain in Year 6 and Year 11, to obtaining a Vice President role and Melaleuca House Captain in year 12. Leadership is a place where I feel like I can shine. I have a passion for helping others, serving the community and shining God's love. Leadership allows me to have a voice for the students and advocate on their behalf.
As it comes to the last four weeks of my schooling career here at Launceston Christian School, I would always recommend applying for the Student Leadership Council as it brings opportunities, connection and unity. It is a place to thrive in your leadership skills.
Here is a recap of the Term 3 events held by the SLC.
Whilst the trivia night took a swing in a different direction this year, it was truly one to remember! Mr Duff, the head of media here at Launceston Christian school, was interested in taking it over from the SLC and inviting alumni, teachers, staff, year 11/12 and parents in community. With this, Mr Jansen continued to MC for the night as he delivered his creative and challenging questions to test our knowledge. And in addition, let’s just say, there were some very creative costumes including, Mr Maker group, Grandmas’ group, and the Graduates (not students) who turned up late wearing graduation robes and hats! The LCS trivia night has always been a fun night of enjoyment, laughter, community and a place where all students, teachers, staff and PiC can find a topic or question to thrive in.
This year, the social was a hit! With the theme being Y2K, everyone rocked up in their creative outfits of the 2000s. The SLC decorated the Jubilee Centre with balloons, a disco ball and streamers to bring to life the theme, and not to forget, the hits of the 2000s. After doors opened at 6:00pm and almost the entire Year 7 cohort turned up, we ran a best dressed competition with Levi Dadson and Emmeline Blok taking out the win.
This was followed by games of Limbo, where the boys shocked the girls with their flexibility, and the girls even more so shocked the boys! Later in the night, four corners were played and a game of finish that lyric had everyone chanting for Mrs Peters to compete with Mr Mcgeachy, and Mrs Armstrong to compete with Mr Armstrong! Let’s just say that overall, the teachers were much better than the students at knowing the lyrics to the 2000s songs. The 2026 Y2K social was a time of exciting games, dancing with friends, and creating memories.
I am so grateful to have once again had the opportunity to work alongside my peers in the leadership council to create an environment where students can thrive and we can support and be a voice for the students of the school.
