From the Principal

What a delightful school!

School leaders have roles that are multi-dimensional and demanding. In coming to be a member of the Launceston Christian School (LCS) this term I have been delighted by the incredibly warm welcome I have received. I have also been delighted by the community. The students are amazing and the staff are energised towards offering a Christian education.

During this term I have had the pleasure of being present at a number of lovely events including the Book Week Parade, the Book Fair and Cozy Reading Night, the Trivia Night, the Volleyball Tournament, Grandparents and Friends Day...the list goes on!

While these community events have shown me just how invested so many are in the life of this school, I would like to mention another aspect. LCS is a member of Christian Education National (CEN). Around Australia there are many schools like LCS that began because Christian parents wanted an education consistent with their biblical beliefs. They wanted a Christian education where the Christian Gospel informed teaching and learning. A key pillar of this approach is the responsibility of parents for the education of their children. One tangible way this is evident in our schools is through governance, with the parent association electing members from within its community to serve on the Board.

In this respect, I have been incredibly encouraged by the dedication of the Board of LCS. I have also had the privilege in my short time here of seeing two of the Board committees (the building and finance committees) in action. Both the Board and their committees are well supported, and those involved demonstrate a passion for Christian schooling. In other words, as someone new to LCS, I see many signs of a healthy and flourishing Christian school. It is a school where the parent community is heavily invested and involved. And to think I haven’t even mentioned the Parents in Community group, who do so much to support the life of the school!

In this the fiftieth year of Launceston Christian School it is fantastic to be present as a witness to the dedication of the community. It is my hope and prayer that, as all involved look to Christ, this community will continue to foster an education grounded in the Gospel story.

Happy Term Break

Enjoy the next two weeks of school holidays!

Rest, recoup, refresh – and I look forward to learning more about LCS and seeing many of you at school when Term 4 begins on October 19.

Shalom,

CEN Conference

Launceston Christian School hosted the Tasmanian CEN Conference on July 27, with more than 500 people attending from around the state. The conference focused on John 15 with the theme being Remain, Rest, Respond.

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." (v5)

CEN Manager of Biblical Foundations Sam Burrows brought the gospel to life with his dynamic presentations, and other highlights included seeing The Jubilee Centre filled with praise to our good God, sharing meals around firepots in the evening, and the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions about purposeful rest, including prayer, worship, creativity, spiritual practices and recreation.

The event was a wonderful success and we are grateful to God for being able to celebrate this event and grow together.
