Welcome back to all students, staff and families after the mid-year break.
In my absence Paul Boutchard (Vice President) attended the mid-year Academic Assembly and presented Sam Lee with the OVA Scholarship Award. Well done to Sam – a worthy recipient and we wish you the best with your ongoing academic pursuits.
I can report that John Halys (OVA Treasurer), Neil Gibson and Bruce Woods (and Christine) joined me at the OVA table, accompanied by some younger (and more skilled) members of the family for the hugely successful SVC Parents & Friends annual Quiz Night. We were pleased to experience the expert catering and service provided by the College students at the event. They are to be commended for their contributions. The OVA table finished strongly but ended midfield in the final analysis but showed plenty of good knowledge with a few memory recall challenges.
Well done to the P&F for organising such a well-supported event and for enabling the students to present their cooking and catering skills. The P&F is an important part of the School community and OVA seeks to have continued collaboration.
In conjunction with the College we are hopeful of commencing with the technology for this database later this month. The preparation works have commenced and this will be a significant achievement once completed.
It is intended that the Alumni database will provide a record of all students that have attended the College over its history and separately identify all Old Virgilian members. This is a significant project of the College that OVA is pleased to support.
Once nearing completion OVA will seek to engage with its members as part of a process of ensuring all past students are included in the database.
The OVA and Principal have recently completed interviews for the Community Engagement and Development Officer. We are pleased to inform our community that Enzo Botte has been appointed to this role and his initial efforts will be centred around ensuring the highest level of integrity of the database and actively communicating with members and the college through supporting the OVA committee and providing multiple communication platforms for both alumni and OVA members.
Further communication arrangements to connect with Enzo will be advised in the next week. He will also be spending a large part of his time working at the College supporting the OVA.
