Community Service Visit to St Vincent’s Nursing Home

Last week, some of us in the Community Service co-curricular visited St Vincent’s Nursing Home. It was such a wholesome experience—just chatting, laughing, and spending time with the residents. I think I speak for the Year 12s when I say it felt especially meaningful. With this being our final year, it was a quiet reminder of the impact we can make simply by showing up and being present. It was nice to pause, give back, and feel part of something bigger than ourselves before we finish up.

Ecocore: Bake Sale & Updates

Ecocore has recently wrapped up its first event of the year: a classic bake sale fundraiser. Proceeds were donated and divided between the Wildlife Conservation, as well as in funding our future nature projects — in which a whopping $271.50 was raised. Major shoutout to everyone involved in its successes!!

However, there’s much more exciting opportunities in the works. Our school’s very first pot plant sale is in the works, waiting for its new owners towards the end of Term 2.

Our weekly meetings are held in S8 every Thursday lunchtime, so be sure to stop by anytime — alone or with friends. We hope to see you there!

On the 14th of March last term, we held the second bakesale of the year!

The bakesale fundraised for the Médecins Sans Frontières organisation, also known Doctors Without Borders, which is described on their website as an international medical humanitarian organisation aimed at delivering emergency medical aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare in over 70 countries worldwide.

The bakesale was a massive success and there was lots of enthusiasm from many students to sign up to bake up something sweet or to help sell despite the short notice bakesale announcement. There was also lots of enthusiasm from students who bought something and we sold out within minutes! The amount fundraised is still being calculated, we appreciate all the support thus far!

If you are interested in participating in future events to help fundraise, come join the Global Issues Club on Tuesdays Week B in G6! :)

Keilor Downs Chess Tournament

On Wednesday, 15th May 2025, Suzanne Cory High School’s chess team competed in the annual Northern Star Chess Tournament hosted at Keilor Downs College — and we’re thrilled to announce that we finished in first place overall, ahead of five other competing schools.

The tournament featured seven intense rounds of rapid chess, testing both endurance and strategic sharpness. Our team rose to the challenge, performing exceptionally well against schools such as Keilor Downs, Penleigh and Essendon Grammar, and Bacchus Marsh.

A huge congratulations goes to Gian Abriam, who was crowned overall tournament champion, winning all seven of his games with a perfect 7/7 score — a phenomenal achievement. We also celebrate Wyn Li, who claimed first place in the girls’ category with an impressive 6/7 score, showcasing both resilience and strong tactical play.

The day was a fantastic display of teamwork, focus, and passion for the game. We’re proud of all our players for their efforts and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

ADT Week Open Mic Update!

The ADT Week Open Mic was an amazing showcase of talent from our VCE Unit 3/4 and Unit 1/2 students, featuring powerful performances full of passion and skill which filled the room with energy, reminding us all how incredible music and the arts can be.

This event was a perfect example of what you can achieve here at SCHS when you put your heart into creativity — and a great reminder for younger students to dive into the arts, explore their talents, and join in the fun. Whether you love singing, acting, or playing instruments, there’s a place for you to belong here, especially in T-wing

P.S. Shoutout to all tech crew and music teachers who helped set up this event, thank you for all your hard work and dedication that allows our performers to shine
