Principal's Report – Term 2

One of the great privileges of working in a school is witnessing the growth of young people over time. As our students graduate and move into the next stage of their lives, we continue to follow their journeys with pride and curiosity. This term, we took a significant step in strengthening those connections with the formal establishment of a Suzanne Cory Alumni Committee.

This new committee comprises former students from the graduating classes of 2015 to 2021—a passionate and thoughtful group, many of whom have already contributed informally to school life since graduating. Their formal role will be to organise alumni events—both at school and externally—and to act as a key point of contact between the school and the wider alumni community. Importantly, this gives us the structure to grow opportunities such as mentoring, careers talks, and work placements for current students, all of which offer invaluable real-world insight and connection.

A strong alumni network enriches a school community in many ways. For current students, it provides role models and real-life examples of the diverse pathways available beyond school. Hearing directly from alumni—whether in formal presentation, a casual conversation, or a structured mentoring session—can make future goals feel more tangible and attainable. For our alumni, the network offers a meaningful way to stay connected with their peers and with the school that helped shape them. It also provides opportunities for continued personal and professional growth, leadership, and contribution. Being part of an active alumni community fosters a lifelong sense of belonging and shared purpose.

We have already seen this spirit in action during our second annual Alumni Week, held earlier this term. This year’s event was bigger and better than the last, with returning alumni joining current students in house teams for friendly competitions. Following these activities, many alumni shared their experiences through “My Journey” presentations—an engaging and inspiring window into life after school and the different paths taken by our graduates.

This exciting new chapter for our school would not have been possible without the dedication and leadership of Ms Leheny and Ms Kirkland, whose work in establishing the committee and expanding our alumni program has been exceptional. Their efforts have laid the groundwork for a thriving alumni community that will benefit our students for years to come.
