House Choral Performances

There are few events in the school year that bring out the kind of heart, energy, and unity we witnessed at this year’s House Chorals competition. Over the past term, students have poured their time, effort, and talent into rehearsals – and the results were nothing short of spectacular.
Far more than just a singing competition, House Chorals is a true celebration of student collaboration and creativity. Each house worked tirelessly to prepare five distinct performances: a Small Choir, Small Instrumental Ensemble, Rock Band with Vocalists, a Mass Singing Set Song, and a Mass Singing Chosen Song. Every note sung and chord played was the product of hours of practice, teamwork, and a deep desire to represent their house with pride.
We were also delighted to be joined once again by the renowned composer and director of the Australian Girls Choir, Mark Puddy, who returned to adjudicate the competition. With over 35 years of experience in music education, Mark has held leadership positions and taught both primary and secondary students in Melbourne and Adelaide. He now devotes his time to tutoring and conducting with the Australian Girls Choir, writing Australian choral music, and delivering professional development for music teachers.
Mark studied music, arts, and education at the University of Adelaide, and has performed as a trumpet player in both the Australian and South Australian Youth Orchestras. These days, he’s more likely to be found behind a piano or microphone, sharing his immense musical knowledge and passion.
As a school, we are incredibly fortunate to benefit from Mark’s guidance and thoughtful feedback. He noted how the bar has definitely been raised since last year, and praised the students not only for their talent and dedication, but for the respectful and mature manner in which they conducted themselves throughout the afternoon. This is a true testament to the high regard students and staff alike hold for this much-loved event, for their school, and for each other.
A massive thank you must go to our Music Staff, whose behind-the-scenes support makes this event possible each year, and heartfelt congratulations to our House Music Captains for their tireless leadership, coordination, and unwavering commitment.
While only one house (Blackwood) could claim the title of House Chorals Champions, every student who participated left the stage a winner – having helped create something unforgettable.
