Why Choose IB?

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme – Why choose IBDP?

A nationally and globally recognised qualification

The IBDP is respected by universities and employers nationally as well as worldwide. Its holistic approach to education develops skills in inquiry, collaboration, and global mindedness, which are perfect for a future that values critical thinking. Some Australian universities even offer university credit for having studied the IBDP, so you don’t have to do certain subjects in your university course!

A balanced curriculum

Unlike VCE, IB requires students to study a broad range of subjects, including languages, sciences, humanities, and mathematics. This keeps your options open and prepares you for a wider variety of university pathways, especially when you’re unsure of what you want to do at university yet.

Learning beyond the classroom

The IB core components, Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), challenge students to think critically, pursue independent research, and engage with the community. These are not just resume or university application boosters – they are life skills.

For 2026, the internal IB application process has been simplified:

  • There’s no minimum grade or attendance required to apply
  • Students submit a written application showing an understanding of the IB philosophy, program requirements, and involvement in non-academic activities via a Google form
  • An interview with the Director of IB may be requested if needed.

For Parents

Parents who want to know more about the IB can download a PDF of the parent webinar from earlier this term.

The recording of the webinar will be made available on Compass soon.

Choosing IB means choosing challenge, breadth, and opportunity. If you’re ready to stand out and embrace a global perspective, IB could be your perfect fit!
