Students in Year 1-6 contributed to a collaborative piece of artwork to display in our gallery outside the multi-purpose room. Students painted concentric circles which were then divided into quarters and then rearranged to create this sticking piece. Can you find your child's masterpiece when you visit the gallery?
Prep - 2 students are looking at lines as one of the Elements of Art and creating artworks based on these. The Year 1/2s are using Joan Miro's work as inspiration.
Yr 3/4 are creating a First Fleet paper collage and Yr 5/6 are creating 3D pioneer homes using a variety of attachment techniques with cardboard and balsa wood.
Aren't these crazy chooks cute!
Our new Preps have started learning about line and what a scribble could become!
SCIENCE
Prep
The students are currently focusing on the theme “On the Move.” We have explored how our bodies move by identifying which body parts we use during playground play. The students enjoyed playing Simon Says and Musical Statues, helping them practise listening skills and body control.
We also went on a hunt to find things that move in our environment and spent time observing moving toys. The students have been learning to predict, identify, and describe the different ways toys can move. They are also beginning to recognise and discuss the specific features of toys that enable movement, such as wheels, joints, or wind-up mechanisms.
1/2
The Year 1/2 students are currently exploring the unit “Sound Studio.” They are developing an understanding of what sound is and where it comes from. Students are learning how sound travels through the air and into our ears, allowing us to hear.
They are investigating the difference between loud and soft sounds and exploring how the speed of vibrations affects pitch. Through hands-on activities and experiments, students are also discovering the direction in which sound waves travel and how vibrations create the sounds we hear.
MUSIC
All students from Year 1-6 learnt the Heel and Toe Polka last week in preparation for Open Day... unfortunately the weather was against us, and we were not able to perform for you - it will have to wait for another time!
Students in the senior module are learning Australian folk songs, such as 'Botany Bay' and 'Click go the Shears' which relate to colonisation, leading up to Federation. We are also looking at famous Australian artworks which also tell these stories.
A small group of Yr 5/6 students are participating in the North-East Victoria Region (NEVR) concert as part of the choir in May. They will be singing at Hamer Hall in the city! Very exciting...
