Prep to Grade 2:

Prep:
Welcome to the Preps!
We are so excited to have you join our school community. Prep is a special year where children begin their school journey, make new friends, and learn many new things. Our classroom is a place where everyone is safe, happy, and ready to learn together.
In our literacy learning, the children have begun exploring their first sounds through Little Learners Love Literacy. They are learning to recognise letter sounds, practise saying them, and connect them to words. The students have also been enjoying listening to mentor texts, which helps them develop a love of reading while learning about how stories work.
In mathematics, the students have been learning about numbers 1–10. They have been practising counting, recognising numbers, and representing them in different ways. The children have also been learning subitising, which is the ability to quickly recognise how many items are in a small group without counting. Through games, hands-on activities, and discussions, the Preps are building strong early numeracy skills while having lots of fun learning together. We look forward to a wonderful year full of curiosity, discovery, and experiences.
Responsbile Pet Ownership
During the visit, everyone learned about what it means to be a responsible pet owner. The visitor talked to the children about how pets need food, fresh water, a safe place to sleep, and lots of love and care. The children were very excited to see the pet and asked many questions about how to look after animals properly.
The visit helped the students understand that pets are living things that need kindness and responsibility. Everyone enjoyed the experience and it helped them learn how to care for animals in a thoughtful and respectful way.
Hockey Visit
The Prep–2 students were very excited to have a special hockey visit at school. The coaches showed the children some hockey equipment, such as the stick, ball, and safety gear. Students learned how to hold the hockey stick safely and how to gently hit the ball. They listened carefully and followed the instructions while having lots of fun trying the new skills.
Grade 1/2A:
The Grade 1/2 students have had a fantastic start to the year and have been working hard across all areas of learning. In Maths, Grade 1 students have been exploring two-digit numbers and building the foundations of the place value system, using a range of hands-on materials to strengthen their understanding of tens and ones. Grade 2 students have been extending this knowledge as they learn to name, compare and regroup/rename three- and four-digit numbers, and for some students, even five-digit numbers. In Literacy, students have continued their LLLL journey, with Grade 1s reviewing consonant digraphs and beginning their first vowel digraphs (ai, ay, ee and ea), while Grade 2s have been busy reading and responding to their LLLL Fluency Fun texts. In Writing, we have been exploring character traits, relationships and personal growth through our beautiful mentor text The Boy Who Tried to Shrink His Name.
In Inquisitive minds, we have been learning all about the important things that make us who we are, and have had some enriching conversations about different cultures and the celebrations and traditions that are important to us and our families.
