Preps in STEM

Prep students have been learning about Chemical Science this term. To apply their learning, students participated in a ‘Three Little Pigs’ open-ended challenge.

Students worked in groups, with one group constructing a house from sticks, another building a house from paper, and the third creating a house using Lego bricks. Before beginning, students drew a plan of what they wanted their house to look like. They then brought their plans to life by building and constructing their houses.

Once their houses were complete, students made predictions about which material they thought would be the strongest. It was then time for the ‘Big Bad Wolf’ (a hairdryer!) to put their designs to the test. Students carefully observed what happened to each house and then evaluated the effectiveness of their designs.

It was wonderful to see our prep students demonstrating their creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and persistence as they designed, constructed, tested, and evaluated their houses.
