St Mary of the Cross MacKillop Feast  Day

Last Friday, the Catholic community celebrated the Feast Day of St Mary  of the Cross MacKillop.   Also known as Sr Mary MacKillop, she was an Australian nun who founded the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart. She was known for her work with the poor and marginalized, particularly in the areas of education and social welfare. She was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 2010.

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

This Friday, the Catholic community will celebrate and remember the Assumption of Mary,  Mother of Jesus.  We remember this amazing gift God gave to Mary, and we celebrate her being in heaven, whole and complete, praying for us. It's a happy day because it reminds us of God's great love and the wonderful future God has planned for those who love Him.

To mark the occasion, you may like to gather as a family and pray the Hail Mary or the Rosary, special prayers that are often dedicated to Mary, to pray to God on our behalf.

Did you know that baby girls born on the 15th August, Assumption of Mary are often named Mary, Maria, Maree and many other variations of Mary.

Family Formation Night ~ Baptism Workshop

On Tuesday 29th July, some of our Prep families gather to engage in a workshop focused on baptism and how this is more than a one off Sacrament.  We discussed the choices made by parents when having their child baptised and the story of the children’s baptism.  We explored the symbols and signs of baptism and how they hold significance for us long after the initial Sacrament.  The workshop concluded with a beautiful prayer and blessing given to the students by their parents.

I would like to thank the families that came along and engaged in the workshop.  It was a fantastic opportunity for families to talk to their children and share in the growth and deepening of their faith journey.

Prayers in Pyjamas

On Tuesday 26th August at 6pm in the Library, we invite the JLA families to come to the Prayers in Pyjamas workshop to deepen your  understandings of prayer, what that might look like in our everyday lives, the significance of prayer in the Catholic tradition and experience different forms of prayer.

We invite any of the students and their siblings who are coming to come in their Pyjamas.

If you haven’t returned the note sent home, can you please do so as soon as possible so that we can confirm numbers and final preparations.

SLA Acts of Service

I would like to take the opportunity to thank our SLA students for their ongoing planning and preparation for their Acts of Service. These Acts of Service were planned as part of thier Confirmation learning and have taken a great deal of time and dedication to makee happen.  A special thank you to the SLA teachers for supporting and guiding the students as they carried out the Acts of Service.

Acts of Service have included food collection, bake sale to the teachers, trinket making and sales, bracelet making and sales.  We are very proud of our SLA students and they way they have used their time, talents and skills to serve others in our community and beyond.
