JLA

This term, the students have returned from their break full of enthusiasm, ready to learn. In JLA we have been exploring the seasons and weather through our literacy, enjoying many rich texts and diving deep into discussions about the world around us.  Students have been observing the changes in our environment caused by weather and seasons. Our school is currently surrounded by blooming wattle trees, evergreen eucalyptus trees and changing weather.

Students have been looking closely at the intricate illustrations as well, learning that clues and details can be found within the images to enhance their understanding of the story and prompt their thinking.

In Religion we are making connections to our environment all around us and recognising the goodness and beauty in God's creation. Students have reflected on the creation story and their own encounters with creation. Some students expressed this saying:

"God made love, the world, care, Jesus and everyone." Ava

"I love animals and nature. I would love too to be playing with wild animals out in a forest, reef or anywhere else." Aliyah

"God created the world with lights, dark, animals and trees." Claudia

"Thank you God for my family and other families. I love  you God even if I do something wrong." Amelia

"I think God made everyone unique. God loves you just the way you are." Eva

"God made the things that help us in life, like light, food and water." Noah

"I love my friends and my family. They are special and keep me safe." Chiara

We have been learning about the importance of caring for our common home, planet earth. Inspired by Laudato Si, Pope Francis’ letter to the world, we’ve explored how everything in creation is connected, and how we can each play a part in looking after the environment.

Through stories, discussion and hands on activities, students have reflected on how their everyday choices affect the world around them. We have talked about how we can care for creation at school, at home and in our communities by doing simple things like reducing waste, saving water, protecting animals and looking after plants.

One highlight was when we created our own ‘Guardians of Creation’ accompanied by a promise they make to care for God's creation.

In Mathematics, we have been learning about shape; describing, making and comparing 2D shapes and 3D objects. Students have created clues using the properties of shapes for others to guess in the "What Shape Am I" game. Students have enjoyed working together and challenging each other with their clues.
