Introducing Auslan

Aitken Hill Primary School students have been introduced to Australian Sign Language. As the new LOTE subject at AHPS, students delve into the deaf and mute community through the study of hand signing as the primary form of communication.

Students are taught by either Estelle Lamendin or Emma de Klerk once weekly.

We have been elated to see the students' enthusiasm and engagement in the subject. We look forward to seeing the progress students across AHPS make as we learn this new language.

Prep - Year 2

Year Prep to Two students have been focusing on a set of farm animals and exploring these signs through song.

Year 3 - 4

Grade Three to Four students have been tasked with creating their own farm drawing with the selected animals that were taught in Auslan. Students were then tasked with signing which animals they drew.

Year 5 - 6

Year Five and Six students have developed a memory bank of farm animals, numbers, colours and emotions. With this knowledge students have been able to create simple sentence structure in Auslan to describe their unique farm drawings.
