In Term 1 Aitken Hill students have been learning about Paper Art and Artists. They have been engaged in learning and applying different paper folding, weaving, and building techniques. Students across different cohorts have learnt about paper accordion folding, paper weaving and paper building techniques. The following is one of the paper artists that students have learnt about this term.
Yulia Brodskaya
Born in Moscow in 1983, Yulia Brodskaya is a graphic artist and illustrator best known for her elegant handmade and detailed paper illustrations.
Within her work, Yulia uses a technique called paper quilling to create a range of incredibly detailed portraits, objects and animals.
She originally began working with paper while advertising her illustrative works to new clients using twils of paper to create her name in different forms, and soon a new passion was born.
Her love of paper craft have seen her work appear in numerous magazines, advertisements and exhibitions working with brands such as Hermes and Paramount Pictures.
The preps have made a fantastic start in Visual Arts during their first weeks of school. Showcasing a love of colour and creativity, the preps have been working hard to build their find motor skills and apply their knowledge of lines to create some wonderful personalised artworks.
Year one and two have made a strong start in Term 1 developing their understanding of different paper folding techniques. We have been focusing on accordion folding over the past few weeks and are working towards an amazing school of paper accordion fish.
Grade 3 and 4s have successfully begun implementing their paper weaving prowess to build a tapestry of paper weaving patches. We have been extremely impressed with their ability to build new skills and weaving techniques.
Grade 5 and 6s are working this term to develop and apply a range of paper sculpting skills that will continue to grow over Term 1. Focusing on 'paper tabs' they been able to build an impressive array of abstract sculptures, experimenting with form, texture and flow.
