Debaters Do Us Proud

On Wednesday, March 24 Mullauna’s three debating teams in the Debating Association of Victoria competition – one in the Year 11 section and two in the Year 10 one – did exceptiona well at Tintern Grammar to debate schools from across the Ringwood region.

The B-grade team of Year 11 students – Angus Pappas, Jasmine Armistead and Bryn Norris – in a battle with Yarra Valley successfully argued that so-called ‘greenwashing’ – where organisations falsely claim a product is environmentally friendly – should be a criminal offence. They were coached by Ms Davidson.

Our two C-grade teams also did impressively in arguing that the electric cars do more harm than good. The team of Ethan Blakeman and Bella McKinnon (both Year 9) and Victoria Halpin (Year 10) beat Yarra Valley Grammar’s team. Bella was particularly impressive given that she was a late replacement, was doing her first inter-school debate, and was up against Year 10 students. The team of Lucy Gordon, Floyd Dahmen and Teiva Levy - coached by Mr Graham - also debated well, but narrowly lost to the Catholic Ladies’ College.

Congratulations to all.
