School Council Report May 2024
The School Council came together for an online meeting on Tuesday 14 March 2024. Key discussions and information shared included:
Student Spotlight
- Sporting events athletics, cross country, and intermediate sports. Pleasingly we had a high participation in athletics particularly in the novelty events. Our German exchange students event walked away with some ribbons.
- Year 10 formal planning underway with a venue booking made. A student committee is working with Mr Graham
- Open Night was a big success – students completing tours were pleased with how things went. An improvement for next year was the allocation of time to next year – fabulous to have so much interest in our school and school spaces.
- Deb ball – everyone had a fabulous night. Battle of the houses planning is underway with the various house captains and schools’ leaders. Push up challenge. first SCR for term 2 – fundraisers have been the topic of conversations in selecting charities to support.
- Attitudes towards school sub-group planning ways to increase engagement across all school
- Reports have come out and the change of language has been received well by the students and provided more insight into the direction of learning
Presidents Precis
Presentation ball – a wonderful right of passage for many students. It was a lot of fun and an impressive amount of work by the students to get ready and huge effort by staff to support the event to be such a success.
Open Night – Great success – attendance was high – perhaps the biggest one to date with lots of interest.
Harry’s Highlights (Principal Report):
- Ensuring we have an excellent complement of staff is an ongoing task. Harry and team continue to manage this exceptionally well in a time where vacancies across education are wide. The school is delighted to welcome:
- Omar Moustafa – Instrumental Music
- Sally Ann Venables – Humanities
- Grace Jenkin = ES Inclusion
- Kerry Posthoorn – ES Inclusion
- From a college operations perspective a few highlights shared included:
- he successful submission of the 2023 Annual Report is awaiting department of education quality assurance check prior to publication.
- Harry, Jeff and Michael had the opportunity to attend Riversdale Principles Conference facilitated by Pasi Sahlberg who provided both inspiration and provocation about the future state for providers of secondary education.
Facilities Feature:
As usual there is a long list of activity for repairs, replacement and renewal to support maintaining a comfortable learning environment. We received correspondence from Vic School Building Authority (VSBA) confirming stage two building works have been placed on hold following budget announcements. Communications from VSBA have indicated that while budget to progress to construction has not gone through, they will continue to support
Other notes of interest included:
- Camp program – lots of work has been underway to ensure the camp program is able to go ahead ensuring the planning and execution of camp locations, and activities align to new department regulations.
- Significant work has been underway to improve assessment reporting – students and families will have noticed as part of recent progress reports. The team will continue to monitor feedback to ensure clarity and usefulness to help students progress.
- Curriculum framework planning underway for 2025
- First Parent and Community Association (P&CA) held first fundraiser with monies raised going towards our wellbeing centre. Reach out to the school if you would like to get involved in P&CA – many hands make a difference in supporting our various learning programs.
