STEP Anatomy by Dissection

Our STEP anatomy by dissection program is underway for semester 2.  Students are getting themselves to school early on these cold winter mornings and in this session were looking at the anatomy of a sheep’s brain under the watchful guidance of Miss Rebekah Phe.  Students were learning that a sheep's brain has similar features to the human brain. Although they have fewer ridges and are much smaller – about the size of a human fist – they both have three divisions, the cerebrum, the cerebellum, and the brainstem!

STEP Celebration Evening

STEP Celebration Evening was in the last week of Term 2.  It was a wonderful night with a huge turnout, we had over 300 people attending.  Students were  showcasing there work and achievements in STEP to parents and families.  Rochelle Spies won our STEP award for overall dedication and achievements in number our different STEP programs.  Nathan Fiddes (previous student at Parkdale) presented on the night to highlight his links to Parkdale Secondary College, the STEP programs and his amazing career and achievements since leaving Parkdale.

All of our STEP programs were on display so that students could pick out what STEP programs they might like to do next year.  Enrolments for STEP 2025 will be opening during term 3 so keep an eye on your inbox and start thinking about programs for 2025.

Well done everyone on your achievements.

STEP - F1 Racing

We have an amazing team of Year 9 students (Hudson Barnes, Archie Pinhorn, Finn Van Deursen) working towards the F1 in Schools Victoria state final.  The team has been flat out designing, 3D printing and racing cars.  They are trialling out different designs to gain those fractions of a second in race times.  The team is also putting together a poster outlining all their research and creative work with their computer aided designs.

STEP Super Chef restaurant

Our STEP Super Chef restaurant sessions are on the go with Gabi Skaltsis from Parkdale SC and Brad Mills from Oscar’s Hangout preparing students to manage the front and back end of Oscars Hangout for a conscious cuisine restaurant night.  In these pictures you can see students are creating and trialling expresso coffee ground brownies for the 5 course extravaganza.   The restaurant night will be Thursday 5th September so stay tuned for more details.

STEP Robotics

Students have been building and programming robots under the masterful guidance of our very own Mr Ben Loxham.  A group of students participated in the statewide RoboCup competition held on Saturday 27th July at the Genazzano FCJ College in Kew.  Maria Kuksa (Pickle) put together a skilful performance that ranked 13th across numerous schools from across the state.  Other students that participated in the RoboCup competition included Max Wadeson (Max Power), Makayla Barwell (Mak Attack), Archer Dearling & Flynn Padden (Noise), Archie Pinhorn (Hyper Speed Dude), Jensen Black, Charlie Gasselin De Richebourg, Liam Polites (Knights of Zebra).

STEP – Year 7

Students in our Year 7 STEP program have been designing cars, creating portfolios and preparing verbal presentations for our 3D print PSC Design A Car racing competition.   A half day race day incursion saw team “The Flaming Tyres” crowned fastest car, “The J.A.C.” best portfolio and “Gruesome Garfield” & “The Flaming Tyres” equal best verbal presentations.  Well done to all our very talented Year 7 STEP students!
