Preparation for NAPLAN 2026 is well underway. NAPLAN is a series of assessments for all Year 7 and 9 students across Australia, designed to monitor student progress in literacy and numeracy. It is not a pass-or-fail test but provides valuable insights into student growth, curriculum effectiveness, and the quality of teaching and learning at our College.
This year, NAPLAN will take place in Term 1, from Wednesday 11th March to Monday 23rd March 2026.
While participation is expected, parents and carers have the option to withdraw their child from NAPLAN testing for religious, philosophical, or educational reasons. If you are considering withdrawal, please contact the College as soon as possible to discuss the process and complete the necessary paperwork.
For more information, parents and carers can refer to the attached brochure or visit the official NAPLAN website:

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the College.

7A are focussing on creative writing for their upcoming assessment. They have been working extremely hard on each of the elements in support of producing a rich, descriptive writing piece. Their general knowledge, vocabulary skills and understanding of current events is being extended through online games such as Wordle and Contexto and the development of oral language skills through discussion and analysis of current issues through BTN High. I am very pleased with the way in which the class has settled into secondary school and has adopted and demonstrated the values of Bairnsdale Secondary College.

HUMANITIES
7A has been doing some important work in Humanities this year. Currently we are learning about history before we move onto geography and then economics and business. We started the term with historical concepts which led us to our current unit on Ancient Australia. In this unit we examine the significant events and people surrounding the origin and nature of Indigenous Australian society. We use evidence to develop an empathetic understanding of the change and continuity in this society as well as the contestability of our knowledge and perspectives. Shortly, we will complete our first assessment before we turn our newly minted historical understandings to Ancient China.

FOOD STUDIES
7A enjoyed the rewards of their hard labour, making Pizza for their Food Technology CAT.

MATHS
Students in 7A have been learning how to solve long division problems by breaking larger numbers into manageable steps. They have been practising dividing with remainders and checking their answers using multiplication to ensure accuracy.

PE
Our Year 7 students have been busy learning about healthy lifestyles in Health, exploring the importance of balanced diets, quality sleep, and regular physical activity. They have been discussing how making positive choices each day can support both their physical and mental wellbeing. In PE, students are developing their skills and teamwork through a variety of net sports, including volleyball, badminton, and pickleball, as well as participating in minor games designed to build communication, cooperation, and overall fitness. It has been fantastic to see everyone getting involved and supporting one another.
