Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been another positive and productive period at our school, and I would like to thank our students and staff for the enthusiasm and effort they continue to bring each day.

Our recent in-school event, 'Not the Swimming Sports Carnival', was a highlight of the last fortnight, with students enthusiastically participating in a range of fun, old-style carnival games. As with swimming sports tradition, the rain set in early but cleared just in time for the festivities. It was wonderful to see everyone getting into the spirit of the day.

Our student leaders did an excellent job supporting staff in running the games, encouraging participation, and preparing the BBQ, which saw an impressive 1,200 sausages served throughout the day.

House points were awarded for participation and teamwork, with Bogong claiming victory.

Points awarded:

Bogong – 76

Tanjil – 50

Curlip – 44

Tambo – 40

Dargo – 39

Tarra – 35

It was fantastic to see our house spirit revived and the respectful behaviour of our students as they participated in events and waited patiently in line for a sausage. It was a wonderful community event. Keep an eye out for our next house event before the end of term – details will be shared soon.

We have also been pleased to welcome members of the local police force to speak with our Year 7–10 students during assemblies about the importance of online safety. The assemblies were co-facilitated by a representative from our local Proactive Policing Team and BSC staff.

The sessions focused on:

  • Safe and responsible use of social media and online platforms
  • Understanding the legal and personal consequences of violence
  • Bullying and discrimination, including respectful relationships and
  • the importance of being an upstander.

The assemblies also provided an opportunity to reinforce our SWPBS expectations across all school settings — including classrooms, the yard and the canteen — and to outline clear pathways for help-seeking at BSC and beyond, including the use of Stymie.

The aim of these assemblies was to strengthen student awareness, promote respectful behaviour, and ensure all students understand their rights, responsibilities, and the supports available to them. We encourage families to take some time at home to discuss the key messages from these sessions. As a school community, we work together to support our young people to be the best they can be, and this is most effective when we are all working in partnership and reinforcing the same expectations and values.

Leadership continues to focus strongly on teaching and learning while ensuring that student wellbeing remains at the centre of everything we do. A significant amount of work is currently going into the implementation of the VTLM 2.0 (Victorian Teaching and Learning Model), with staff engaging in professional learning and collaboration to strengthen classroom teaching and improve student outcomes. This ongoing effort reflects our commitment to providing the best possible learning environment for all students.

Thank you to our students, staff and families for your continued support. It is wonderful to see our school community working together to create a positive, respectful and engaging place for learning.

Sincerely,
