Swing Band Performances at Paynesville Classic Boat Rally
The Swing Band gave their first performance for the year at the Paynesville Classic Boat Rally. The audience was delighted with the program, which contained lots of “oldies but goodies”. Pieces included swing classics such as ‘Tuxedo Junction’ and ‘In the Mood’. The five new students to the band did an amazing job. Thanks to James Newman for his work leading the students and to Sonny, Meg and Ada for helping pack and unpack the cars at school.
Music Recruitment
It’s not too late to sign up to join the music program. We are particularly interested in students wishing to take up the trombone, flute or clarinet but other instruments are available also.
We are not taking any further enrolments on violin or percussion.
Junior Strings and Junior Band
The junior ensembles started this week. It is great to see the young musicians at the start of their musical journey. Just a reminder that rehearsals start at 3:25 and finish at 4:15pm.
Music Practice
At this time each year it seems important to say something about home practice.
Students should keep the following in mind:
- Set regular times to practice each week-aiming for 4-5 times per week (this doesn’t include ensemble and lesson)
- Find a suitable space where there are no disruptions and doesn’t disrupt the family
- Invest in a music stand
- Set goals, both long and short term
- Practice things which need work, devising strategies to solve issues
- If enthusiasm is waning, don’t lose sight of the reason chosen to learn a musical instrument
Parents can support practice with friendly reminders, providing a well-lit, quiet space and by offering gentle encouragement.
Students who practice make progress and there is nothing more motivational than steady progress.
Instrument Hire
The instrument hire levy is due this month. If families are having any issues with payment, please contact the finance department at school.
