Art Excursion to NGV

On Tuesday last week, the Grade 5/6 Fashion and Design Elective students went on an excursion to the NGV to visit the Westwood and Kawakubo exhibition. We discussed the rebellious and radical nature of their designs, and their connection with the punk season (who were some of the original upcyclers). Inspired by both artists, we then ventured to Savers to purchase some second-hand items to upcycle into our own fashion pieces.
Some memorable parts of our excursion were:
- secret dance party at NGV with a billion stickers and party hats
- rushing to the tram in the pouring rain, ending up soaked but still smiling on the way home!
- the public commenting on how amazingly polite, intelligent, and creative the BNWPS students are
I am (as always) so proud of our students, feeling super inspired myself, and can't wait to see what we create in the next few weeks of our elective!
If anyone has a spare sewing machine we could borrow in the Art Room for the last weeks of Term 1, could you please contact Jenny (The Arts Teacher). It will be well looked after by a sweet group of passionate designers and only used by those 5/6s. We currently have three, but a few more would be really helpful!
With kindness,
Jenny (The Arts Teacher)
